Rewind!
I don’t know if I’ve done this kind of post before, but I’m certainly doing it now. I’m taking a trip down memory lane to revisit my best posts of 2013. I don’t have any particular number in my head, so I have no idea how many I’ll have by the end of this post. Enjoy!
January 2013: Turns out I don’t have a favorite post from January 2013. They were all just okay to me.
February 2013
1. My Complete Thoughts On Kim Kardashian In Nigeria: Remember when Dare decided to bring Kim K in for his concert and she was there for only a few minutes? I enjoyed writing this post because I was so mad about the money that was spent on bringing Kim there, and I was more irritated by the way our celebrities were falling on each other for photo ops with Kim.
2. Guess Who Was At The White House??? Meeeee!!! Now, this was my favorite post of February. I mean, I got to go to the White House. The White freaking House!!! Being in the White House building meant a lot to me. E-mailing back and forth with people whose e-mail addresses were at the White House was entertaining to me, and meeting law makers whose words and decisions affect my daily life, that was surreal. I’m yet to meet Barack and Michelle Obama though. Maybe in 2014?
March 2013
3. This One Is For Joe: We started going to our current church in March 2013, and it was on our first day there that we learned about Joe, a critically ill man and a dutiful child of God, who in spite of his illness, continues to serve his God fervently. The church was doing a fundraiser where people were buying wrist bands and t-shirts to help raise money for him. As of March 2013, Joe was given 12 to 18 months to live. He’s still alive, and I am still wearing my wrist band. Please pray for Joe.
4. 5 Things You Cannot Categorically Tell (Because Your Oga At The Top Can Say Another One): Do I really need to explain this one? The man was an internet sensation in the Nigerian community. Just in case you never knew of him, or you need a little reminder, or maybe you just need to laugh again, follow the link to read the post and watch the video.
5. RIP Chinua Achebe: We lost a legend, and that’s all I’m going to say on this issue. I can’t believe it happened since March. Feels like last week.
April 2013
6. My Big News: Igwe & I Are Expecting: This was my April Fool’s post, and as usual, some people fell for it. Quite frankly, at this point, I think I am all out of April Fool’s tricks. I cannot think of what other lie to tell.
7. Where Are All Those Nigerian Bloggers: I was reminiscing and going down memory lane, and it was all worth it because apparently, I was not alone.
8. Dear Vera, Where Are The Nigerian Men In Maryland? This was a Dear Vera mail that sparked conversation, and I just love it when that happens. I wonder if that reader has found a Nigerian man yet? Update us, girl!
May 2013
9. Tell Me, Do I Still Blog From The Heart? I love this post. Any time you tell me how you feel about me or the blog, I love hearing it. It may not all be positive, but I have never been afraid of criticism. So, thank you!
10. I Met A Man With Too Much Sperm: This is the post about the man who produced so much sperm that his penis hurt and it was recommended that he have sex very often to empty his err tanker.
11. There Are Still Top 12 Reasons Why Igbos & Yorubas Should Not Marry: I originally wrote this post in 2012 (see it here), but for whatever reason, people are still reading it (and they are still insulting me for it), so I figured I’d republish it again. Read the comments on both blogs and be entertained.
June 2013
12. Let’s Address The Issue Of Ads On Verastic: You’re probably wondering why I’d pick this post as a favorite. Well, that’s because I only started monetizing Verastic [officially] in June, and in the same month, I had a bunch of sponsored posts back to back, so I decided to write a post to explain what was going on. The post is a great moment to me because of its significance: money.
July 2013: I don’t have a favorite post from this month.
August 2013
13. Ladies, Where Do You Take Your Bra Off?: I love this post. You know how you think something only happens to you and then you find out that it’s actually quite common among everyone else? That’s exactly what this post was to me. Apparently I’m not the only one who takes my bra off in the living room and leaves it on the coffee table (or dining table) for days.
14. My Entire Thoughts On Ese Walter And Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo (And Their Alleged Affair): This was a viral story in the Nigerian community when it broke in August 2013. But the story is more dead than alive now. The Pastor is yet to officially comment on it. I guess the Lord has not given him a robust response to give us yet. We wait, we wait *rolling eyes*
15. Give Me One Word To Describe Me & Verastic: Like I said in number 10 above, any time you tell me how you feel about me or the blog, I love to hear it. So you have no idea how happy this post made me feel. I actually included some of your words in my media kit. I mean, brands and sponsors should know how my readers feels about and Verastic, no?
September 2013
16. My Fashion Disaster: You probably don’t think too much of this post, but I think a lot of it. This is the post where I talked about my lack of clothes that I actually like. Since this post, I haven’t shopped much, but for the few times I have bought things for myself, I have taken extra precaution to make sure that I LOVE them, not just liked them. I’m still in the process of giving my closet a makeover. Thanks for asking.
17. How To Eat Meat At A Nigerian Event … And Still Look Cute: I attended one too many Nigerian events with the food tasting like a million bucks and the meat being next to impossible to eat with style, unless you go to war with it (both hands and all teeth included). I still think about it every time I go out.
October 2013
18. It’s Vera vs Her Natural Hair – Part 1: This was my first time ever, ever putting up a picture of my natural hair. I was expecting most people to agree with me and understand my frustration with my hair, but to my pleasant surprise, most people just said that the hair is nice. I still don’t understand why, but okay.
19. Would You Use A Birth Photographer? After I discovered birth photography, I put up what I thought was a simple (and possibly boring) post, but alas, I was wrong. This post got so much attention and social media shares that I was thinking Oprah would call me anytime soon. Alas, I was wrong about that, too. But this I know: birth and birth photography is B E A U T I F U L.
20. Emmanuel Has My Number, And I Don’t Know Who He Is: What would Verastic be if it didn’t include screen shots of random conversations between Vera and Emmanuel, a guy she doesn’t know, but who has her number anyway (and thinks of her as being very sharp)?
November 2013
21. Do You Poop At Work? This was another one of those posts that I thought would be boring, but again, I was not the only one thinking about the concept of pooping at work. Fun read.
22. Please Pray For My Friend, Funmie: This was one heck of a fun post for me. Because of the title of the post, some people freaked out, thinking Funmie was ill. But it was only about her transition from Blackberry to Android (Samsung).
December 2013
23. Let’s Talk About Verastic In 2014: This is my favorite December post because it outlines my plans for 2014, and as of today, I obviously don’t know what 2014 would be like, or what I would accomplish – Verastically – but a girl can try.
That’s it for 2013. Woo hoo!!! You will not be hearing from me till 2014. Don’t beg me. I’m not returning till next year. Have a safe New Year, and I love you long time *kisses*
