I have been a proud member of TeamBlackberry (used to be known as Crackberry before Twitter became all popular and stuff) for the past five years. I remember how I felt before I got my first Blackberry; I was ecstatic! My biggest excitement was that I would be able to get and respond to my e-mails on my phone. Do you know what that means for a blogger?
I am due for a new phone, and before I smelled the coffee, I was actually considering getting a new Blackberry. But then, I reviewed my on-growing Blackberry signs and symptoms, and I decided that maybe I should choose a different route. Below is a list of some of the symptoms my Blackberry has been displaying:
1) It goes off by itself when it feels like it, and it doesn’t come back on until I notice it’s off and turn it back on (by popping the battery out and replacing it).
2) It freezes countless times a day. Heaven forbid that I receive a text while I’m in the middle of chatting on the Blackberry Messenger. That’s it! Phone is frozen. I’d have to pop the battery out and attempt to continue the conversation when it comes back on.
3) It decides when it wants to ring. When it does not feel like ringing, it just doesn’t. It may light up, but then, it goes back off immediately.
4) While ringing, it is sometimes frozen, so although I can see (and sometimes hear) that it’s ringing, picking the call isn’t an option, as that clock-looking thing just keeps going and going. And going.
5) Sometimes it shows me that I have a missed call, but when I press the button to see the call, it says it is from an Unknown Caller. The problem with this is that it is usually not from an Unknown Caller. It’s from someone whose number is saved on my phone. To fix this, I have to call everyone who I suspect might have called me to ask, “Did you just call me?” And to prevent this problem altogether, I tell everyone, “If you call me and I don’t pick up, leave me a message or a page! That’s the only way I know you called.”
6) I manage several e-mail accounts. All the ones on verastic.com no longer receive or send mails on/from my Blackberry because I changed their passwords. Naturally, I tried to change/update their passwords on my Blackberry, too, but it won’t let me. Once I press the E-mail Account icon under Setup, it takes me right back to the homepage, so it’s like going through a revolving door.
7) My Blackberry prompts me – at least once a day – to delete some apps and free up some space. Problem is, I only have one app! UberSocial is the ONLY app on my phone. I don’t save e-mails and texts, and all pictures and about 10 songs are all on my microSD card.
8 ) Not all text messages come through. Some of them get lost in transition – wherever that may be.
9) I get Facebook notifications, but I cannot check them on my phone because it always says it’s unavailable. So what are the notifications for?
10) I have woken up late more times than I can remember because my phone is frozen when it is supposed to be ringing. I have learned to rely on a new alarm clock.
These are just ten of my favorite Blackberry fudge ups (Yes, I don’t have the balls to say the real F Word) – at least not here anyway. In a future post, I will tell you how I subsequently got saved and delivered from this bondage.
What’s your Blackberry story?
I am happy for you Vera. Honestly
Haha. Nonso, you’re not serious. See how you’re making it sound like I just got acquitted of a heinous crime. Lol.
Obviously u upgraded the OS 5 on your BB Bold 9700 to OS 6.
Thats the major Problem, the OS 6 is almost as large as the 9700’s memory itsefl so even if you have no apps. the memory is still full.
The OS6 also generates a bucket of temporary data which it stores continually till your next hard reboot. That further reduces ur available working memory.
All the other signs are off shoots of having low memory.
We all fell into that ill-thought plan of upgrading our OS without upgrading our machine (BB 9700).
Anyways i have seen the light, and it is good. #Team iPhone !!!
Yes, I did! I wasn’t gonna upgrade it oh, but it kept prompting me like everyday, and then, certain apps refused to work, saying OS wasn’t compatible with them.
Per the light, I have seen it too, but mine comes in the form of #TeamAndroid. That said, I still love Apple though, but I already have their latest iPad, and it works just like a big iPhone. I’ve decided to go the Android way, so I can have something different.
Mine is the new BB Bold touch, 9700 or whatever it is called.
I’m LIVID.
1. It freezes (with that BLOODY timer in the middle of the screen) randomly for minutes on end
2. It’s on but it’s not on – I want to unlock my phone, I hit the unlock button, NOTHING HAPPENS, the screen stays blank. It’s obvious the phone is on because the red light’s flashing because I have a new message of some sort.
3. All of a sudden, my memory card is full. I take one picture, it says I have *many* pictures left to take, I take another and the card’s full.
4. Oh, and it’s not even 3 months old. And I got it on a renewed 2 year contract.
Main reason I stuck with BB was BBM, buttons (not a fan of touch screen) and emails. But if the MAD phone is freezing and not allowing me to access them then what is the point?!?
I. AM. LIVID.
Yeah, that bloody timer is ridiculous!!! I had to take off the password thingy on my phone cause when I attempt to unlock, it’s usually wahala. And I feel the same way too. What’s the point of the phone if you cannot enjoy anything on it? Sell that thing jare.
Oh, mine’s the 9900 (not 9700).
P. S. I used to hate touch screens, too, but not anymore. I have seen the light lol. They’re actually quite easy, especially on the good devices.
Can I just say that I have not had any problems at all with my blackberry. Now the network provider is another story altogether… #teamblackberry still.
Really??? Wow! Walahi, you’re the first Blackberry user I’ve come across recently who said that. Even my friend who got the newest one a month ago is already complaining of her phone freezing.
I guess I’m one of the lucky ones eh? I’m using the Curve 9360 and at first I was having problems with my battery draining like every hour or so but that was cos I had too many applications, social media and IMs running at the same time. Since I adjusted all of that my BB and I have been happy, I charge once or twice a day, depending on how busy I’ve been on the social feeds. I honestly can’t complain. 😀
Mimi,
Wow! This really sounds like a foreign language to me. LOL. I hope to have my new phone by the end of next week. Can’t wait. Well, goodluck to you and your Blackberry. I wish you both continuous love and happiness. LOL.
Congratulations on seeing the light. BBs are overrated… Samsung galaxy s2/3 now on the other hand are a delight to use once you get the hang of it… Team android!
Lady!!! I am getting the Samsung Galaxy S III before the end of next week. Can’t wait! Lol.
Sorry about your phone, I am still team blackberry 🙂
What?! There are two people in my comment section who are TeamBlackberry?! How’s that even possible? LOL.
OMG!….u just listed all d crazy problems I have with my BB torch 2! Can’t wait meself to get d samsung S 2/3, but isit any better?
Well, from what I have heard and read, it (Samsung Galaxy) is a lot better. Personally, I’ve never owned an Android phone, but at this point, almost anything will be better than my Blackberry. I’m getting the Samsung Galaxy S III because it’s the newest one, and because I have fallen hopelessly in love with it.
Vera Vera Vera….how many times did I call you??? LOL. Ummm, this phone looks old oooh. What model is this? You mean to tell me you haven’t gotten the 9900 yet? My Blackberry works fine. Most phones I had in the past start developing problems after 1.5 years of use so will see how my 9900 (my first Blackberry) holds up.
Your first Blackberry?! And your husband works for RIM. chei!!! Your VIP card to the Blackberry Wives club will soon be revoked. And yeah, my Blackberry is old. I’ve had it for two years, but the problems started a long time ago. I was gonna get the 9900 oh, but I’m glad I never got around to it. Whew! Lol.
Lol…you crack me up chica. Mehn there is no advantage to be in the blacberry wives club…they are cheap *not naming names* you have to buy your own. I was always been a BB hater until android did not work for me (had the phone for six months and that was all I could take) and too many people talked about the Iphone so I went with the logical choice…. So far so good but two years is really not old ooh.
So I take it you are now an Iphone user huh 🙂
Lol at them being cheap with their Blackberry. Android didn’t work for you? What kind did you have? I mean who was the maker of the phone?
Actually, I’m not with iPhone. I’m still with Blackberry, but that will change by the end of next week, I hope. I’m gonna be getting the Samsung Galaxy S III. Google it and read some stuff about it.
One thing I know for sure is that I will always use whichever phone I deem to be the best at the moment. In other words, no more TeamBlackberry, TeamAndroid, or TeamiPhone. Right now, I’m TeamVera. Lol. If I get this Samsung and iPhone comes out with a better phone, I’ll switch to iPhone. Gbam! Lol
I agree. Definitely go with the phone that works for you. I support team Vera…lol. I had a T-Mobile My Touch and it was the worse phone I have ever own. The only good thing about the phone was the navigation system with Google maps….it was superb. Had the phone replaced twice under manufacturer warranty, still no luck. Hey but my BB has blackberry traffic plus my new Naija music radio app so loving it. Go team Vera!!!!
Oh, I heard that the T-Mobile MyTouch phone is not a good phone. Well, can’t waitbtobget my new one. I ordered it, but it hasn’t arrived yet. If it doesn’t work for me, or if iPhone comes out with something better, I’m switching! Lol. Like I said, I am not TeamVera
