Sweet Potatoes,
I come bearing good news. You know that Project #2 I have been hinting at? Someine even asked about it in my last Ask Me Anything video. Well, it’s here now. Your Vera now has a shop. Let me tell you about this shop. It was about seven or eight years ago that I first got the idea to start a t-shirt line. I wrote it down on a sticky note and posted it on the wall. Every year, I said I would do it, but several times, December 31st came and met me and I still had not started the t-shirt line.
I have told you many times about how I overthink everything into inaction. Well, this was one of them. I worried about so much: where would I get the shirt? What color would it be? What would be the quality of the shirt? What would be the style of the shirt? What would be the color of the font? How would I sell the shirt? Where would I sell the shirts? Who will supply the shirts? Who will print on the shirts? Do I need to buy the equipment to print on the shirts? So many questions, so little answers, so many years.
But coming into 2016, I decided that I have to, have to, have to get it done this time. And here we are today. I painstakingly took my time to pick the perfect fabric for my t-shirt. I didn’t want the regular heavy cloth you find in custom shops, and I also did not want a cheap fabric, so I was all too happy to finally decide on the shirt that I did. It’s lightweight, its fit is great, and when you touch it, you may want to wear it everyday.
The inscription on the shirt says “AFRICA IS NOT A COUNTRY,” and I chose this inscription because it is something I am so passionate about. I cannot count how many times I have had to tell people that Africa is not a country, that there is no African language, that we do not all know each other, just because we’re from Africa, and that contrary to what they may think, you cannot get on a plane to “Africa.” You actually have to have a destination within Africa. We are a continent, not a country. People need to know this.
That is why the t-shirt is white with a black font – because white is a classic t-shirt color, and you cannot go wrong with black on white. And it’s stylishly v-neck. The shop is currently lonely, I know because I only have one item in there, but hey, do not despise the days of humble beginnings. I will be adding more products to the shop as we go along, and of course, I’ll let you know as soon as I add something. Also, I’ll add more pictures to the shirts.
I cannot wait to remind the world – without speaking a word – that Africa is not a country. Join me? Buy one for yourself! Buy one for your spouse! Buy for your best friend(s) Buy one for your neighbor(s)! Buy for your in-laws! Buy for the man/woman you’re “talking” to! Buy for your coworkers! Buy for your classmates! Buy for your children and future children! Buy for your enemies sef. They’re UNISEX.
P.S. My shop is aptly named Main Market. Because Nigerian.
P.P.S. I have something else to tell you on Wednesday. You’re welcome to guess what it is. Tehehe.

Thank you, my dear! Meanwhile, I’m still trying to figure out how to make it work. FedEx is giving me a ridiculous quote (about $150) and other parcel carriers are just as ridiculous. Once I find out the best (cheapest) way, I will definitely make it known.
