Ghanaian President, John Atta Mills.
Wait. Are we still in Africa? West Africa? As in, the continent where turbulent Nigeria is located?? Ghanaian President, John Atta Mills died two days ago (Tuesday, July 24th 2012), and two things shocked me:
1. He died in a Ghanaian hospital, and
2. The Vice President, John Dramani Mahama, has already been sworn in as President.
New President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama
First of all, our leaders do not die in Nigeria. From the president down the local government chairman, nobody wants to die in Nigeria. Sure, they can live there and steal all of her money, but when it comes to dying, anywhere but Nigeria would be the better place because dying someplace else grants you a smoother path to the afterlife. Think Paris, South Africa, Spain, Germany, India, and of course, America. Even their wives and children would rather not die in Nigeria. Remember when First Lady, Stella Obasanjo died in Spain during a cosmetic surgery?
I remember when Yar’adua, President of Nigeria died. To tell us sef that our President was dead was a problem. One minute he was dead. The next minute he wasn’t. And when we finally knew he was dead, it was said that his wife, Turai wanted to become the acting President. We swore up and down that she was the worst first lady ever. And then we met Dame Patience. There was so much chaos before Goodluck Ebele Jonathan actually became the acting President. And then, Nigeria let a deep breath out, saying, our savior has come.
Fa, fa, fa … Foul!!!!!!!!!!
People rejected and criticized Yar’adua, saying he was as slow as a turtle. Now, Goodluck has come into power, and we wish we could have our turtle back. Suddenly, even IBB doesn’t look so bad anymore. It really makes me wonder about this Giant of Africa thing we keep calling ourselves. We are like toothless lions; we only roar and pretend we are a big deal, but when push comes to shove and it’s time to catch some prey, we go home empty and hungry.
To President John Atta Mills, may you forever rest in the bosom of the Lord. And to President John Dramani Mahama, may God give you the strength and wisdom to lead your country well. Amen.
P.S. Am I the only who thinks that John Dramani Mahama looks like a total bad ass? Like he should be starring in a movie along side The Rock and Arnold Schwarzenegger? Like he should be spotting an earring on his right ear and a tattoo tear drop under his left eye? Or like he might be packing a 9mm caliber on the small of his back? Just me then? Okay. Disregard.
