Watch this video and tell me what GEJ is yarning. I’m so sure he’s not saying what I think he’s saying. No, he cannot possibly be saying what I think know he’s saying. Oh, Lord, have mercy, please say it isn’t so. You mean to tell me that this video is on CNN and the whole world has possibly seen it? Okay.
He said it, didn’t he?
Nonso O says
Haba. It wasn’t so bad. Most of what he said was true. Except the soldiers driving people into BH part. He may not sound as cool and hollywoody as your Obama but as far as content in this interview is concerned, was ok
Vera Ezimora says
I don’t agree oh. Most of what he said was not true. It was either downright wrong or very evasive. And lol, I most certainly do not expect him to sound like Obama. Haaa.
Onakachi says
Arrgh! He keeps calling on the rest of the world to help and did not really answer some of her questions.
And WTF was that he said about electricity? Really? Really?? I can’t!!!
Vera Ezimora says
Onakachi, I don’t know what he was saying about electricity, like what Nigeria does he live in? I do agree that the problem of electricity was not accumulated in one day, so I don’t expect it to be fixed in one day, but saying that “most” Nigerians are happy with it is just nonsense.
Ayo says
I’ll rate this interview a 2.5/10, mainly because of his honesty about the electricity being a problem that has piled up weight of the years and cannot be fixed overnight. Also his statement about the theft of crude oil, which is being shipped away and refined abroad, hints at the president realizing that it is a problem that both the nation’s people and foreigners have a hand in. Coastal and Naval security have a hand in the manipulation and illegal export (smuggling) of hundreds of thousands of crude oil yearly.
However, the President is completely either being ignorant or has decided to lie about the people of Nigeria being happy about the situation of electricity and power in the country. Mr. President has also turned a blind eye to the fact that his so called Security forces cracking down on Boko Haram are not handling the pursuit and tracking down of its members, and in the process injuring/maiming innocent people. The President has also failed to realize that although misuse of power and corruption may not be the primary reason for Boko Haram’s attacks (which for those who have been monitoring events abroad and at home, will see that it is as a way of recruiting people for Al Qaeda and other terrorist factions), it is an avenue for them to thrive.
Frankly, the interview didn’t surprise me, unintelligent responses from Mr. President, and certainly makes him sound very ignorant. I’m keen to also point out that the CNN reporter got her statistics wrong, it is not 60% of the Nigerian population that are without steady power supply, about 85 – 90% will sound more appropriate. Even if we are to include people that use alternative sources for may be 8 hours out of a whole day, it still would be more than 60% without stable power supply.
Vera Ezimora says
Ayo, I, too, agree that the problem of electricity is not one that can be fixed in a day. This is true. That said, the problem has lasted this long because no one has been serious enough to fix it. As long as it doesn’t get fixed, the argument of it not having been made in a day will continue to be relevant. And as for the smuggling of crude oil being a problem that both Nigerians are foreigners are responsible for, I completely agree. However, we must first take care of our own side before expecting the foreigners to do theirs.
Most (if not all) of the people who smuggle these drugs are either in power or friends to people in power. We know that Nigeria is not a place for the common man to do be able to pull this off. GEJ needs to check his people and stop acting like he doesn’t know who is responsible for what.
zaynabb says
Yesterday has to be my first time hearing him speak and i am definitely not impressed by his voice or his manner of speaking. Sounds more like a random uneducated businessman than the President of ‘Almighty’ Nigeria…
Is it just me or he seems very uncomfortable answering those questions?
Vera Ezimora says
I agree. He doesn’t sound presidential at all. I don’t know exactly what I was expecting, but I know that this was not it at all. Per the questions, I think Christiane Amanpour was using too many big words, lol.
chizzie says
Zainab I find you very amusing. Of all the leaders Nigeria has ever had (of course they were all northerners) he is the most educated. Ask Gowon why he signed the Aburi accord!
Yes he may not be a charismatic leader, but he is one of the most sincere leaders Nigeria has ever had!
Dalu says
U guys shld take it easy naaa!. must we always bash our own? It’s as if the man can do no right in our eyes. We are always quick to attack him. Before nko?, u want him to tell amanpour BH is overwhelming his government?, or that parts of the country see light for just a tenth of d day?? No naa, I’m not saying he is doing enuff ooo but abeg, let d man drink water keep cup.
He looked scared at d beginning of d interview sha… LOLOLOL!!!
Vera Ezimora says
LOL @ looking scared. But Dalu, if he’s going to lie to Christiane and tell the Nigerian people the truth, then that would be different. But he’s lying to everyone. He doesn’t tell the Nigerian people anything. He and his people just continue to steal from my people. That ain’t right.
chizzie says
Thank you honey. @Vera, do you know how many times your darling Obama and wife has lied to you Americans with so much of his sweetened speaches that you agree.
The difference I still maintian is that GEJ does not have the charm.
OBJ might not be better but he had his way with the media.
Zik and Ojukwu were loved cos their words were as the words of zeus. Let’s give GEJ a chance
Sage says
GEJ : You can fool most people all the time; all the people most of the time, but you cannot fool all the people at all time!
OBJ in his book “my watch”, is right about you – “GEJ may mean to do well but he does not know how”. This is the central truth of his government.
A good leader needs to be firm, decisive, ruthless (if necessary at times). You cannot be a good leader by being friends to all because you don’t want to appear like a bad person. Often times, your leniency would be taken for a ride – if you fail to deal with erring friends, associates and family members; non-acquaintances won’t take you serious!
It’s a pity there won’t be another chance to correct all the wrongs. GEJ didn’t have a shoe when he was a child but now, he has succeeded in making most Nigerians shoeless. There’s God ooo.
