It seems like only yesterday when we used to watch music videos on DVDs Video CDs. I don’t know if YouTube did not exist then or if we were just not used to it, don’t remember. All I know is that there were CDs upon CDs upon CDs with mostly poor quality music videos.
If you wanted to see the music videos of contemporary artists like D’banj, 2Face, P Square et al, you had to purchase and watch a VCD that couldn’t even skip scenes. It could forward, but not skip. I was never into them, not because of their quality or because they could not skip, but because I just wasn’t ever – still am not – a huge music video person.
But the story was different for my mom. She bought all the music videos for those Igbo gospel songs from artists like Agatha Moses. That was mom’s way of entertaining her guests, and in retrospect now, I wonder what the guests were going through, having to sit down and watch about 60 minutes worth of videos.
The videos always had some kind of power point background and visual effects, and there was always group dancing. If you bought a music video that was a compilation of a bunch of songs and artists, there was almost no telling what genre or artist would come next. It could very well go from King Sunny Ade to Fally Pupa, but the best part was when people like Michael Jackson and Madonna were tucked right in the middle.
Oh, the good ol’ days. I found one of such music videos from Agatha Moses. Enjoy.
P.S. I like Agatha Moses for her high pitched voice. Quite entertaining.
