I have never really been into music videos. A lot of times, I’d know the song and love the song, but I might not even know what the singer looks like. Does not matter the genre of music. That said, when I do watch American music videos and I see a lot of almost-naked women, I look past it because it’s American music. But when I watch a Nigerian music video and it looks like an American music video, I’m honestly disappointed.
For me, when I watch a Nigerian music video, I want to see Nigeria and Nigerians in it. I am not interested in seeing half-naked blonde-haired women, even if they’re in an ankara bathing suit. I know that a lot of our musicians have American influence in their music (the words, the mannerisms, the fashion, etc), but it’d be nice to still have that authentic Nigerian flavor. be One o
Enter Achikolo by Zoro. I loved the song when Igwe sent it to me (Igwe is my song supplier), but I loved it even more after watching the video. It’s unapologetically Igbo and Nigerian and African. I love it. Why can’t we have more videos like this?
P.S. Someone needs to teach me how to dance like the people in this video. I’m so jealous. Even Mr. Ibu can dance better than me. Much, much better.
