It’s something that has been in the works for about six months now. I cannot count the number of people that have said, ‘Come back to Nigeria. There are opportunities here…’ but it’s not so easy packing up your life and moving cross-continent when you’ve lived somewhere for so long. If not anything, I wondered how on earth I would transport all my shoes. And what about my winter clothes? I love my winter clothes!
Little by little, I have been sending my things home. A pair of shoes here. A few clothes there. Some books there, too. It’s amazing how much I have moved. Of course, most of my things are still here, and by the time I move, I know I will not be able to take everything – at least not all at once.
Verastic dot com’s domain has been paid for, for the next two years. I’ll keep blogging from there, of course. Now, the speed and reliability of the internet is a bit scary for me, but I should be able to survive. The talk show, however, is going to suffer. The good news is that I have gotten a job in Nigeria. It’s amazing how I got a job without even stepping a foot in Nigeria. It pays to blog and make friends in high places, I guess.
I’m not quite sure why I’m blogging about this now. It’s not like I’m moving today. Or this week. Or this month even. I guess I did not want to just spring the news on you. My emotions are all over the place right now. I’m somewhere between anxious, excited, scared, and unsure. Nonetheless, it is a move I have to make. I know there would be lots and lots of challenges. I know I will experience culture shock in my own country. I’ll have to get reacquainted with NEPA. I’ll be living in Lagos (and I used to live in Jos when I was in Nigeria), so I’ll have to get used to the heat, the traffic, and the craziness that is Lagos.
I’m set to meet some very interesting people though. I’ll be meeting with some well-known celebrities (yay!), interviewing with two magazines, and of course, I’ll be meeting up with bloggers. Like I said, I’m anxious, excited, scared, and unsure. So much is happening at the same time. The good thing is that they are all good. I’ll have to learn how to be fashionably dressed at all times. I hear the girls in Lagos don’t play. I apparently have to wear six-inch heels and carry a coach bag — just to go and buy a cup of butter.
So, would this be a good time to say April Fool?
…. Or should I wait till it sinks in real good?
Happy April Fool’s Day.

WOW you got me there!!! good one Vera, lmbo!
Wannabe returnee says
That wasn't funny! I'm actually going through a similar process as that which you described in your 'joke' so I was kinda happy to identify with you.
You never know, maybe one day you'll truly have this amazing opportunity/offer you can't resist to go back to Nigeria so don't jinx it!
Vera Ezimora says
48: Thank you jare, my dear. You're the kinda person that I like. A person that will fall hook, line, and sinker. Tehehe. Hope you find the job.
NBB: I've thought about the radio, too. I've wondered what would happen if I were to move to Nigeria. And well, oga di mma.
Honey: Oh, honey sweetheart, I'm so sorry for scaring you, love. Not to worry, when I do decide to move,
I'll break the news slowly. Deal?
Good Naija Girl: Thank you, babes!! Did you fall for it, too? I hope you did oh.
Diamond: Hahaha. Whatevvvveerrrr. Don't worry, next time, you'll definitely fall!
Blowing Blessings: LOL. Tehehe. Yay! It's a good thing that you fell for it.
Wanna Returnee: Awww, sweetheart, I didn't mean to rattle you. That said, I was very aware of what I wrote before I wrote. Things you write about on Valentine's Day can indeed come to pass, so I'll be jinxing it in a good way — if there's such a thing 🙂 Hope your move is smooth.
Myne Whitman says

I didn't fall for it sha. I was reading and then I remembered it was April 1, and knowing you (per your blog entries), I suspected you were trying to pull a fast one. 🙂
~B~ says

TayneMent says
Umm yeah I totally fell for this. See as I dey jealous you sef lol
Vera Ezimora says
Myne: No problemo! If I did not get you this year, 2011 dey come. Surely, surely, I must get you one of these days. You go see.
BBB: LOL! It's all good. I'll still get you some other time, don't worry. Be very, very careful!
Chichi: Hahaha. So I got you, huh? Yay!! Now, tell me, how did you feel? Bet it felt good?
Mimi: Yes, indeed! Last year, I told people I got engaged. A few people cried for me sef. Chei. That was some good stuff.
T.Notes: Wetin be that one?? So, you think it's a bad move going back home? Don't underestimate the power of connections oo. The problem with Naija is that the people who are making it are really making it. And those that aren't, well, they just aren't.
Quagger: LOL! Shoot, just for wanting and planning to stalk the hell outta my ass, I would definitely move back home! That's reason enough to move back jare. Sometimes, a girl needs a little attention…. even if it comes in a stalkerish manner. LOL.
Musco: Buhahahahahahaha. Ah, poor you! And you fell ehn? My pregnant friend told me she put to bed. Lai, lai. I no fall.
Favor's Heart: LOL. Sweetheart, I'd love to hook up with you. I can, and I will still come. Keep me in mind, please.
Smaragd: LOL. I'll definitely come. No doubt about that. It's just a matter of time. I don't know about wearing the six inch heels for gnuts. Slippers anytime jooo
Vera Ezimora says
Caramel: Sharrap jare! Onye ala. How dare you not fall for my trick? I love my winter clothes though. If I were to move now, it'd hurt that I won't be able to wear them anymore.
Omotee: Ah, the devil is a liar. I must show my face for your blog. Nne, please do pardon me. I am awfully sorry. Don't worry, you'll fall next year.
Mike: Oh, Lord! Really??? Okay. Thanks. Will do immediately. Thank you to whoever recommended my blog, too. Yippee! Wait, is this an April Fool's Day trick?
FFF: Tehehehe. My darling, if it makes you feel any better, I do want to join you there. Baby steps, though. Na small small pesin dey lick hot soup.
Evee: Hahahaha. I thank God for His mercies oh! You're my typa girl! Hehehe. I'm glad you fell. You make me determined to do this again next year. Why shall I shy?
Vera Ezimora says
Ms. O: Oh, really??? Okay, no problem. Y'll keep not believing me oo! One day, I'll be serious, and no one would believe me. That day, it will do you people like film trick! lol.
Fabulola: Bia, Fabulola, you dey crase abi you dey mad? Why won't I move to Nigeria this soon? In short, just for this comment you made, you will born a dozen children. Mark my words oo!
Baroque: Darling, where you planning on how we'd hook up, too? LOL. In fact, I had you in mind when I typed this post oh, nwa nne'm nwoke. Hahahaha.
KG: It has always been a thought oh. It's becoming more entertaining in my head these days. I'd definitely love to relocate, but I have to do it the right way, at the right time, and for the right reason(s). Indeed, those Naija babes no dey play! Don't you see in movies, they were heels inside the house. Which kin suffer head be that?
Lara: LOL! He's a miracle-working God, isn't He? I'm glad you fell. Yippee!! Next year, you'll fall again.
Rene: It's amazing that I've blogged for four years and people keep falling. Next year, people will fall again. I love my life.
Lucid: Bia, kpachalu anya gi o! Who are you calling an aje butter? Ima kwa onye mbu? Do you know me? I eat aje butters like you for breakfast. No dey try me oo. LOL.
Nice Anon: Hahahahahaha. Tufia kwa. Isi will not mebi'm. Why the anger? Odikwa na mma? Hehehehe. Is it my fault you fell? Take time ooo. Instead of you to be trying to figure out how we'll pack and go Naija together, you're talking something else.
Darinya: LOL. No problem at all. I am consoled by the fact other people fell. Next year, by God's grace, you'll fall.
~B~: You did, huh? Okay o! Wait for next year! I will show all of you pepper next year. Una go see.
TayneMent: You better continue the jealousy that you were jealousying me before oh because the day is fast approaching when I will put this post up for real, and when I put it up, it will be better than this one sef. As I have written it today, so shall it be. Yes, ke!
yoyo says

Haha I believed until the end of that 1st paragraph when I saw that you were concerned about shoes and winter clothes. Lol. Anybody moving back to Nigeria will be HAPPY to leave their winter clothes behind!

Vera Ezimora says
Yoyo: LOL! Awww, don't feel too bad. You're not the only one that fell. LOL. Now, per the song, I would have loved, loved, loved to hear it. Only problem is that you've forgotten to include the link. LOL.
WriteFreak: Uh oh. Ehm, Sister Write Freak, didn't you get the memo I sent you, the one that detailed that this is an April Fool's day trick. You didn't get it? Oopsie.
EDJ: Oh, my goodness, that's so not me, for real! I actually love my winter clothes. I'm not one of those people who look forward to summer. I love (well, "like") winter, so when I'm moving to Naija, I'd be genuinely concerned about my new inability to wear winter clothes.
Sting: Hahahaha. That's the way it should be. Instead of you to be happy that you fell, you're here making noise. LOL.
Scarlet: It's all good. Next year, I'll use a topic that you will NOT figure out. You just wait! LOL.
His Treasure: LOL! Okay ooo! Since y'll are starting to "sabi" me, e be like say I go need to change strategy small.
Nice Anon: Tehehehe. Dalu nwa nne'm. My pregnant friend, sef, tried to get me. She sent a text saying she had put to bed. But I said lai lai ….! LOL.
Anoda Phase says

Afrikan Goddess says
I was getting ready to wish you the best of luck and i was sad the radio show would "suffer," but i was happy that you got a job and were set with the magazine interviews and high rolling etc. That was a really realyl good one!
Jayla. says
Like nice anon said, Isi dapukwa gi there. I just wasted my awwwwws & ahhhhhhs for nothing. Infact april fool don pass, u should get arrested for this 😀
Vera Ezimora says
Anoda Phase: Prepare to be fooled next year! It's not going to be this easy next time.
Rita: It most definitely isn't a bad idea to relocate, and I actually plan to. It's just a matter of time. Sebi, when I come, I can spend one weekend in your house abi? *wink, wink*
Just Joxy: Awwwww. I'm glad I was able to put a smile on your face. Sorry for the last couple of rough days. Joy comes in the morning, doesn't it? Pele.
Afrikan Goddess: I guess I was trying to write it the way I want it to happen. You know now! When it does happen, it will, by His grace, be better than this sef.
Jayla: I don't care what you say. I know you don't mean it. I know you don't really want me to be arrested. Tehehe. LOL @ the awwws and aahhhs.
sleekiest says
The good thing about having read your blog is that I kind of know whatto expect. You not doing an april fool's joke would having been a joke all in itself. So as soon as I read the first line I went back to confirm the date and then kept reading in amusement.
Nice try though… hella funny.
