Spoiler alert! If you have not watched this episode (Season 3, Episode 9) and plan to watch it, then please exit this post right now. For your entertainment, you should read this other post about kissing before marriage.
This is the first time I’m putting up a whole post dedicated to Game Of Thrones, and it’s for good reason. I started watching this show two years ago when I was bored and decided to see what series HBO had. I watched the first episode of Season 1 and I had to watch the next. That was how I got hooked. In Season 1, one of the main characters, Ned Stark got beheaded. I did not see that coming, and frankly, I am not over it yet.
Fast forward to Season 3, I was about three episodes behind, but I didn’t mind because I knew it’d be OnDemand, and I could watch all three in one day. But the day after Episode 9 aired, I saw instagrams and tweets about the falling apart of the Starks. What?!?! So I was so afraid of watching it. I was curious and anxious, but I approached the episode with much trepidation, a fast-beating heart, and very shaky hands.
Once upon a time, Robb Stark sought help from Walder Frey. Walder Frey was willing to give the help on the condition that Robb Stark (who is King of The North) marries one of his many daughters. Robb agreed. However, he fell in love with Talisa, a native of Volantis. Then he married her. His mother, Catelyn Stark was against the union because “Walder Frey is a dangerous man to cross,” but what can you tell a man in love?
He still needed Walder Frey’s help. Long story short, he apologized to Walder Frey, and a wedding was agreed upon where Robb’s uncle instead would marry one of Walder Frey’s daughters. Everything was going well until it was time for the bedding ceremony (meaning the husband took his wife into the room to know her), and the band started playing The Rains Of Castamere. Everyone except Catelyn Stark was too drunk, too happy, and too relaxed to realize what song was playing.
In what seemed like a split second, someone stabbed Talisa Stark in her pregnant belly. Then arrows rained down on Robb and his mother. Lord Bolton stabbed Robb, right before he said, “The Lanisters send their regards.” Then Catelyn’s throat was slit. And then, cast and credits.
Oh. My. God.
I stared at the blank screen for a while waiting. Waiting. Waiting. Then I started thinking about what would happen next to undo what just happened. Like maybe that red-haired witch, Melisandre would somehow consult her god, the Lord of Light or whatever she calls him to undo these deaths. Or this could go the Nollywood way where this was all just a dream. Oh, the terror!!
And all this time, little Arya is outside. She was this close to her family, and it all got taken away from her hit list is getting longer. I assume that her There was so much more that happened in this episode, but the death of Catelyn and Robb is by far the most memorable – and not in a good way. I cried my eyes out after watching this episode, then I spent two nights – no lie – dreaming about it.
Tomorrow is the season finale, and I want to ask, what else could top this, but I know better than to ask that, especially when it comes to Game Of Thrones. This show isn’t like any other. In Scandal, for example, I am confident that Olivia Pope will never die. How can she die? She’s the main character. Game Of Thrones isn’t that way. It could be anyone’s dying day.

I knew shit was about to go left from when Arya was looking at the castle. I just knew it!. Even when Bolton released Jamie. Btw I love this new Jamie and Brienne. I’m so interested in seeing how Cersei is going to relate to him with Brienne by his side O_o. But yeah, people are actually being killed and not only the bad people, but people who are actually fighting for a good cause. I had to replay ending like four times to fully get all of what happened. Did you see Catelyn’s face when they shut the door and started playing that sad music?! The worst part of this whole thing is the wait between tomorrow at 9pm and till the next season.
I’m curious, too, about Jamie and Brienne. And I’m afraid, too. Hope she doesn’t get killed by Cersei. I’m hoping that no other good person dies, but this is Game Of Thrones. It’s almost certain that someone I like will die. *sigh*
And Catelyn’s face in that scene deserves a big Emmy. It was surreal.
I am so hooked on this series that I have read book one and just order the other four from the series. I can’t wait to find out what happens next. It is definitely an amazing series and from what I have read it stays true to the book. That has been one of my pet peeves when the story line is changed in a movie that came from a book. Anyway keep on watching it just keeps getting better. I have to say though that I was shocked when Rob his wife and his mother were murdered, but in my opinion what else could be expected after they had broken their agreement with the other Lord. I would of never gone that was asking for it. I wont see tonight’s season finale until tomorrow when my husband comes home from work, he hates it when I watch “our” shows without him lol. Great blog btw!
Munjeka, It was such a shock to see them killed. I was expecting that at most, Walder Frey would attack them and they would fight back. Whatever the case may be, I was definitely not anticipating their death. I can hardly wait for Season Four. It would be crazy!!! I just hope that no one else dies.
Not watching the show but read all the books. That author is a mean machine. !
You read the books? Lucky you! I need to get to reading, too.
Read the books too. Not watching the shows. But am waiting for The last book.
Yes, I heard there’s a last book – the sixth, I think. I should read the books, too.
