So this past weekend was Thanksgiving. It technically wasn’t the weekend. In fact, technicality has nothing to do with this. It just was not the weekend. It was Thursday. However, with all the food and celebration, it felt like Saturday. The only thing that makes a week day holiday suck is having to go back to life the next day. Like, why couldn’t Friday be a holiday too? So I’ll start my weekend recount from Thursday.
Thursday: Thanksgiving Day. I did not cook a thing. Instead, we went to Femi’s house to celebrate with him. He just bought a new house – congratulations! – and he invited us over for Thanksgiving. Funmie was the caterer. She cooked fried rice, jollof rice, plantains, fish, efo, egusi, pounded yam, and puff puff. In other words, there was more food than we could finish. I barely ate. Because there was just so much food, I did not really feel like eating. I regretted this as soon as we left. And there were more than enough drinks, too.
Saturday: Funmie, Uzo, and I had been planning a movie date forever, but there was always something going on with one of us. Finally, the day came. It was colllllld! And it was extremely windy, which made it feel like it was twenty degrees colder.
I picked Funmie up and off we went to Uzo’s house. Somehow, we could not agree on what movie to see. I wanted to see Twilight, but Funmie wanted Flight. And I knew that Flight would be a good movie, but I honestly was not in the mood to see it. I wanted something less intense and serious, and she only wanted Flight because Denzel is in it. Uzo had the power to solve the problem by deciding what movie we see, but she chose instead to sit on the fence.
So we lingered around, wondering what to do next. The brutal temperature outside was not helping either. One thing led to another. Funmie ate some rice. I ate some pineapples. Uzo’s husband came home with African bread. Uzo and I warmed the bread and ate it with butter and drank it down with a ginger ale. Then we watched back to back episodes of Grimm — after I snatched the remote from Funmie cause she was watching some nonsense. No, not porn.
So yeah, that was how our movie date went. Fun time.
Sunday: Church. It was a BEAUTIFUL service. Apostle Sunday Popoola, one of my favorite preachers, was in church spitting some wisdom. I absolutely love the way he preaches teaches. I bought some books from him, and I have one of them to giveaway. We’ll come back to discuss that later. For now, I’m going back to bed.
How was your weekend?
P.S. Sorry, no pictures this time!

Well, I wanted to see ‘Twilight’, but Funmie would have been casting out the demons in the movie theater. The good things…hot bread and my new show ‘Grimm’
Oh! Funmie’s face while watching ‘Grimm’ = priceless ๐
