You guys, I finally saw Black Panther!
I know, I know. I think I was the last living person on earth to see Black Panther for the first time this weekend. You see, what had happened was that prior to the opening weekend, I had every intention of seeing Black Panther on the day it came out. However, as the day grew closer and closer, I couldn’t make it. However, I bought two tickets for me and Toby (my 16-year-old cousin) to see the movie on President’s Day (February 19th 2018). I was trying to be a sweet, loving big cousin. On the day of the movie, Toby told me he had invited his friend, Victor.
Well, since I had no desire to hang out with two teenage boys (and since the movie was sold out and Victor couldn’t get a ticket), I decided to forfeit my ticket and let them both go see it. I was their driver instead. I dropped them off and picked them back up. Since then, I have been promising to take myself on a date to go see it, but I have been canceling on myself. Finally, a friend offered to go with me, although he had seen it already.
So, this past weekend, we saw Black Panther. Oh. My. God. It absolutely lives up to the hype. It was everything I wanted it to be and much more. The black excellence portrayed in Black Panther could be seen, felt, and heard throughout the movie. Although Wakanda is a fictional country (or kingdom? I don’t remember), I absolutely appreciate the inclusion of real African-ness. There was even a character called Okoye, and I love that she was a woman.
I loved Black Panther so much that I told my friend that we should start answering questions with Wakanda Forever. Why didn’t you come to my party? Wakanda Forever. What flavor of ice cream do you want? Wakanda Forever. Why didn’t you complete your workload? Because Wakanda Forever.
For Vera so loved Wakanda Forever that she has been teaching Ada Verastic how to do the Wakanda Forever salute. She’s still learning, but she should be a complete Wakandan soon. This post isn’t a review of the movie because I can’t think of anything to say that hasn’t been said already. But if you have not seen Black Panther, then you definitely should.
Speaking of seeing Black Panther, you know how people went crazy on the opening day and dressed like Africans? Well, my very own Dr. Uju was one of those people. Look at her below: citizen of Wakanda. Isn’t she lovely? And she has seen Black Panther three times. I plan on seeing it one more time.
Wakanda Forever!!!

*Gasp* How dare you!!! Lol. You should see it though. At the very least, you’ll be so proud (or prouder rather) of your Blackness.
