When it comes to skin complexion, we (Nigerians) have an inferiority complex. Yes, I know that Nigerians are not the only ones who have this inferiority complex, and I know that not every Nigerian has it either. But I have not completed my survey on exactly who is or isn’t suffering from inferiority complex based on their complexion, so I’m just generalizing here.
Dencia just released a product called, Whitenicious, and according to her, its sold out. I don’t expect the people who bought the product to complain about it because they are the customers. But what about the rest of us? Am I the only one who is offended that a Nigerian – Black – girl created a product called, Whitenicious? And her promo shot for this product has her looking white – thanks to lighting and flash. Do you not find this offensive? The picture is so bright that I can’t look at it without squinting.
For the people who bought this product, which one of you bought this just to get rid of dark spots? You know you bought it to lighten your skin, and that’s fine if you’re about that life. But for those who don’t bleach their skin and did not purchase this products, how does it make you feel to know that your fellow Nigerians are willing to go above and beyond to change their skin color?
I shouldn’t compare Nigeria to America, I know. But I can’t help but wonder: what would be the reaction of the American people if a Black American entertainer decides to make and sell a product called Whitenicious? People don’t even like it when a Black person looks lighter than usual on the cover of a magazine. How then will they make such a product and proudly sell it?
But in Nigeria, it’s perfectly fine, normal, and welcome. Whitenicious, really????????
Check yourselves, people. Check yourselves.

Hi Vera Dencia is actually from Cameroun she is not Nigerian but its really sad how people can stoop so low as to think you can only be considered beautiful when you look like Michael Jackson the white version. I’m ebony black and I know am beautiful just hope from whitenicious her customers don’t start battling later with skin cancericious

Inferiority complex is what she i suffering from! The promo shots have her so white she almost blended in with the blog background. If she was serious she would have done a promo shot with before and after dark spots on her body or someone else’s. I have seen her photos pre fame and she had a lovely complexion wonder why she had to go mess it up.

Vera abeg she is from Cameroon not that it really makes any difference but forget stereotyping oh, Cameroonians don’t bleach to be yellow like Nigerians. They bleach to be porcelain white.

The name is stupid. The generalization is correct there is an inferiority complex. But nobody wants to deal with it bc the general perception is lighter is more beautiful. So as long as it is believed so who will question it. Beside whitening products are big business, nobody wants to mess with that money. I’m all for before and after picture of people that bleach for many years maybe that will scare someone straight.

I actually looked this product up because I was interested in it removing this dark spot on my face. I have had this for almost a year and after trying about 15 different lightening creams for blemishes and dark spots, the only thing left for me is a chemical peel, maybe a serious of them. SO when I saw this I jump on the site but was turned off when I saw the price was $150!!!! No way!! That’s a close price to a chemical peel! I’m not into the whole lightening of all my skin, I love my complexion, being I am mixed with black and Mexican. I just want this dang spot and other small blemishes GONE!!!! It doesn’t offend me a black woman who is portrayed to be white or close to it is selling whitening cream. Hey, not every person who makes a hair care product for people of color is a person of color and we still use it.

Try fresh lemon juice every day. Works wonderfully. It moisturizes as well. Don’t use soap. Just rinse your face. For a deep cleanse do a facial mask with clay.

If our people understood the science of melanin we wouldn’t even be having this discussion.

It surprises me how people will want to destroy their skin using chemicals when we have all natural products thats gonna help. How on earth can you bleach your entire complexion and consider it a spot corrector. surprisingly i just wrote an article on “why use chemicals to destroy your skin” and also on ” why go natural or use natural products.” you can look up these site and comment if you are interested. frailisse.blogspot.ca
