I promised the other day that I would start sharing blogging and branding tips, so here we go. I have created a category for it up there, next to my vlogs. Today, we’re talking about email addresses.
If you’re self-hosted – meaning that you have your own dot com, like verastic.com instead of verastic.blogspot.com, then you are able to get an email at your own domain – like blog at verastic.com. So if you are self hosted, make sure you get your own branded email address because it makes you look more serious. Think about it: if someone emails you and says that they are from Disney but their email address is at Yahoo, would you believe them?
If you cannot have an email address with your own dot com (because you are not self hosted), then the least you can do it get an email address that is in line with your blog/brand. That is, if your blog is called Lipstick Files, then your email address should be lipstickfiles@emailprovider.com or something close to it. The email address associated with your blog/brand should not be something random like suyalover101@emailprovider.com, and it should not be something creative that is not related to your brand/blog. For example, this is not the time for you to tell the world that you love eating raw onions, unless that’s what your blog is about. In other words, rawonioneater@emailprovider.com is not a good option, especially if you take or intend to take your blog as a business.
And when it comes to email providers, choose wisely. Personally, I love Gmail and all the things I can do with it, like add labels and colors to emails and send certain emails to certain folders. But do what works best for you, as long as your email is a great representation of your blog/brand. I have to mention, though, that for whatever reason, emails at aol and/or hotmail come across as suspicious or dated.
If you have any questions about emails and/or blogging/branding in general, please feel free to ask below and I’ll respond. Or if there’s a particular blogging/branding tip you want me to write/talk about, let me know. Otherwise, I offer one-on-one blogging and branding consultation. If you’re interested, just fill this short questionnaire, and we’ll take it from there.
