You know I love recommending TV shows every now and then, right? So, while I was at the BlogHer15 conference, I had the pleasure of being invited to watch the first episode of GRANDFATHERED on FOX. The show premieres this September. To prepare myself, I watched the preview first, and I loved it before I watched because John Stamos! You know John – yes, I call him John like we know each other – is in the league of Men-Who-Get-Finer-With-Age, so this was the perfect role for him.
John Stamos plays the part of Jimmy Martino, a successful restaurateur and confirmed (see: career) bachelor. He’s very good at his business, and he has no wife or children. Or so he thinks. Enter Gerald, played by Josh Peck (remember him from Drake & Josh?). Gerald drops the bomb on him. Not only is Jimmy a father (Gerald’s father), but he is also a grandfather because Gerald has the cutest little girl, Edie.
Imagine your reaction if you have lived your entire life thinking only about you and the things you want: money, career, women, etc. But never a family. And then one day, some guy shows up at your door and says he’s your son. And while you’re still trying to swallow the lump in your throat, he goes ahead and introduces you to your grandchild. Jimmy Martino has to go from single to father and grandfather in literally seconds with no formal or informal training. He didn’t even get a hint that there was a possibility this could happen. What follows, as you can imagine, is nothing short of chaos. And laughter. And confusion.
But GRANDFATHERED isn’t just about a bachelor learning to be a family man. It is also about love, family, and second chances. And who doesn’t deserve a second chance? While Jimmy pretends he’s tough and all that, there was a time in his life when he truly loved, but you’d have to watch it to find out more.
