For All The DOPE Kids Of The 90s

I already talked about the DOPE movie the other day and how it reminds me of my own coming of age. But, but, but can we also talk about the looks in the DOPE movie and how it reminds “us” of our upbringing?  If you grew up in the 90s, you’d watch this movie and have all kinds of flashbacks. And before you know it, you’re spotting a skater dress and an accent braid. Oh, and jelly sandals, too. Because why not? And because 90s kids (and style) are the coolest.

Although the movie is set in present day, the star, Malcolm is in love with all things 90s, and ironically, 90s fashion are making (or have already made) a comeback in real life. Fashion is always going and coming back. This is why I’m never, ever getting rid of my skinny jeans! Some day, they’ll disappear and then make a reappearance. Just like the bucket bags. I remember when my mom had a ton of them, until they became extinct. Well, not anymore!

Growing up in the 90s, it was music like Brandy and the likes that kept me going. These days, I turn on the radio, and I have no idea what is going on. I feel like my parents, the way they used to look at me when I was rocking out to songs from Michael Jackson. They said my generation was strange with their (our) music choices, and I feel the same exact same way about the new generation. But when I’m at an event and a 90s song comes up, I jump up immediately. Because again, why not?

The DOPE movie, with its 90s style and music and attitude is sure to make the 90s kids nostalgic for their lives past. Did you notice the sweater and necklace of Zoe Kravitz? *sigh* At the very least, you can catch the movie this Friday, June 19th 2015 in theaters everywhere. This movie has received so many rave reviews, and you can’t be left in the dust.
