Ladies and gentlemen, this past Sunday in church, Igwe and I were just stepping out of the car in the parking lot when I noticed another couple parked two cars from us also stepping out of their car. It was not really the couple that got my attention; it was their car! They had a sky blue Volkswagen Beetle Bug. Oh. My. God.
Like Stannis Baratheon, I’m a practical person (although I wouldn’t sacrifice my son for the throne). If you don’t know who Stannis Baratheon is, then we need to reevaluate our relationship. Google him.
Like I was saying, I’m a practical person, and sometimes, being practical isn’t the most exciting. It’s functional and it makes sense, but it might not be fun. Remember when Igwe bought me my Zoe? I had the choice to pick any car, and I picked the KIA Forte. When I chose the KIA Forte, I knew I wanted something cute and small, something that would be fuel efficient, dependable, easy to maintain, and practical for the now and later. Since it was a brand new car, I did not intend to change it for a few years at least. And that’s how I ended up not buying my precious Bug. Before I bought the car, I read reviews and descriptions, even of things I did not understand, and when we went to the dealership, I asked many questions. The dealer might have thought I knew more than I actually knew. I even printed out a picture of the car and put a cut out of my face in it. I looked good!
Please understand that I actually love my Zoe. However, my number one choice was a Bug. I didn’t buy the bug because I was wondering how practical it would be when I start having children in a few years. How easy will it be to put my car seat in there? What if I have the coveted twins? It’ll be twice as hard. So I wanted a car with four doors for easy access, and that’s how Zoe happened.
But if I were to win the lottery right now, I would run off to Autotrader to buy the impractical car of my dreams. Yeap, the Bug is still the car of my dreams. I have never driven a bug. I don’t even know if I have ever been in one. But if I could, I would buy one. I think I’d have a fantastic time in a bug. I think I’d absolutely love driving a bug. And this may be one of those situations where the anticipation of doing the deed is even more exciting than the deed itself, but I am willing to take my chances. If there’s any such thing as having an absolutely fantastic time while driving – this would be the time.
By the way, I visited Autotrader and they do all sorts of things there! You can search for cars in new, used, and certified conditions, and you can even receive an instant cash offer for your current car. You can also find local dealers in your area, so instead of visiting individual dealerships (via web or in person), you get to search for all of them in one spot. This is neat! And you can find out about insurance and loans, too — unless you’ll be paying with cash like me — when I win the lottery. And guess what? They have reviews! I am that girl who reads reviews about everything before buying.
After searching Autotrader, I found my perfect bug, although the jury is still out on whether I want the hatchback or not. But just look at this baby! I don’t know yet if I’ll end up with a red one, but I know it definitely won’t be black or white because all my previous cars – Zoe included – have been black or white. Change is imminent.
Oprah, if you’re reading this, do I get a car, too?
P.S. Note to Autotrader, if Oprah can’t give me the car, I encourage you to give it to me. You’ll have a special room in Heaven.

I drive a 2003 Bug. And I have grown to love it. I was lukewarm about it at first. Now I look at my “Aki” –thats what I call her- and I am proud we have come so far. What made me fall in love with her the more is she drove from NY to Houston without breaking a sweat. And this is a 12 year old car. I have come to appreciate her so much!! I would love to drive the latest models. That would be so cool. I stare at them on the road when we pass each other. The only other car catching my fancy now is Mini Cooper. Mine is silver. The red open top ohhhhhhhhh….thats a beauty.

Brooms, I am soooooooo jealous!!! You have a bug? *sigh* Let me have it! I love the bug so much, but I have never, ever driven one. And they never have it at the rental shops. Mini Coopers are nice too but nothing like my bug
