How Bud Light Lime Took My Beer Virginity

Igwe and I are fond of going to random eateries, just to try it out. Even in our neighborhood, we can no longer order pizza and wings from the same place because our perfect pizza shop does not have the perfect wings, and our perfect wings shop does not have the perfect pizza. Most times, we don’t order both the wings and the pizza anyway, but in the rare events that we do, we have to drive to two places to pick our food up.

So it was in one of our random bar hops that I discovered Bud Light Lime. I rarely ever know the name of whatever cocktail I’m having. I usually just tell the bartender to give me something sweet, whatever that may be, and most bartenders laugh at me. Igwe laughs at me, too, and says that I’m just drinking juice. Peer pressure is for real! But on this particular day, Igwe ordered himself a draft beer to start with, and he convinced me to try it, which I did by taking a sip, and the result was the same: I did not like it. Then the bartender suggested that I try something new, Bud Light Lime.

All I needed was to hear Bud Light, and I immediately decided, although I had never tasted it, that I wouldn’t like it because it was beer. But she said I should try it, that it was not going to be like anything I had tasted before. So I did.

I. Loved. It. It was so not what I was expecting. When it went down my throat, it was so crisp and refreshing and not bland, and it had a very inviting after taste of lime. It’s like you don’t really taste the lime until it’s gone down, and it’s so interesting, the taste it leaves in your mouth. That night, I drank 2 bottles of Bud Light Lime – by myself.

Igwe was stunned. He said I had officially become a bad-o. And I felt like one, too. All of a sudden, I felt like my level had changed, and that maybe people needed to address me differently, like they could perhaps call me Miss Up-For-Whatever. It takes a special kind of someone – me – to go from not drinking beer to drinking two bottles in a day. And I loved it so much that I propped a bottle up on my bookshelf. The bottle is empty now, but it’s still on my bookshelf.

So when I got the opportunity to review this beer, I did mental back flips because hey, I already love this beer, but I got to drink it again, this time with more attention and calculation. Igwe was watching me suspiciously when I was drinking this Bud Light Lime beer, and after my second bottle, he wanted to know if this was still for the review, or if it was now just for myself. He clearly knows nothing about mixing business with pleasure. And nothing about being a Bud Light Lime-drinking blogger.
