Now, you know that I never, ever, EVER come here to tell you about anything that I’m currently doing or planning to do. Okay, that’s a lie. I tell you a lot. Some might say too much, but we know they don’t know what they are talking about. And this time, I want to tell you about BGIA: Black Girls Ignite Africa. It is a non profit organization for us and by us.
They’re having an event on Saturday, December 8th, here in Maryland, and yours truly will be there, live and direct. Hope you can make it! Tickets are only $25 per person, and it all goes toward a great cause. If you’re going to be there, let me know. We should totally meet! In the meantime, read the press release below for more information. Alternatively, you can just skip and go here to purchase your tickets. And check out their website: www.blackgirlsigniteafrica.com
Since her inception in 2011, BLACK GIRLS IGNITE AFRICA (BGIA) has made a steady and purposeful stride in fulfilling her objectives within the African communities. Armed with a volunteer team of both men and women in various parts of the world, BGIA has begun adding value to the self worth and social standing of women and children within the African communities through skill development, business empowerment and education.
Women are the cornerstones of every community in the world, yet they are always vulnerable due to their exposure to social threats. BGIA believes that by encouraging and empowering women and young girls through education and business, it allows them to be prepared for any curve ball thrown at them. BGIA was created for the purpose of honoring and celebrating the success of women across Africa. We take action and cause change; we do not provide lip service for any individual or organization.
“Be the change you desire” is one of the series of events put together by the BGIA team with the professional planning company of the official BGIA event planner FTK~KONNECT Events in order to begin the positive revolution we want to see within African communities. Over the past year, BGIA has been working on projects and partnered projects with organizations in Kenya, Ghana, Tanzania and Nigeria to initiate the change with our ongoing projects. Our first and major project is the Zarephath project. It is still an ongoing project to build an educational institution for the citizens of elekuru village.
It is heart breaking to see young children walk two-hour come rain come shine to a mango tree to be educated. Most of the families in the village are barely surviving because they cannot afford a meal. While working in Oyo, Nigeria, we also partnered with widows and orphans alive community (WOAC) in Kenya to help the impoverished communities there. We had the honor of donating foodstuff to 53 poor widows and send 11 children to school.
To increase the business skills of the women and young girls, BGIA has begun a mentoring and business enterprising program, which has an aspect of micro loans. The idea behind this project is so that we can guide the women and young girls and put them on the right path to become who they want to be in life. The micro loan is created TAIN PERIOD A BUSINESS ON THEIR OWN. IT IS A LOAN OPPORTUNITY FOR WOMfor the purpose of providing loans to women who cannot afford to start a business on their own.
As a fellow friend, family member and colleague, BGIA is encouraging you to donate books (new and used), clothes (new and used), and brand new toys for boys and girls and if possible monetary donations for a Christmas lunch to someone who cannot afford a meal. Please go to our website at www.blackgirlsigniteafrica.com for more information about how to donate these items and the closest drop off location to you.
