Queen Bey has done it again. She has released a new album (her 5th) without any kind of warning. She didn’t even tell me! The album is called Beyoncé and she released it straight into iTunes with 14 songs and 17 videos, but not to worry, the physical version will be released in time for Christmas. And one of her songs, Flawless, features our very own Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. How cool! She also has a song called Blue, featuring her daughter, Blue Ivy.
Beyoncé said, “I didn’t want to release my music the way I’ve done it … I am bored with that. I feel like I am able to speak directly to my fans. There’s so much that gets between the music, the artist and the fans. I felt like I didn’t want anybody to give the message when my record is coming out. I just want this to come out when it’s ready and from me to my fans.”
Remember when Beyonce released the “Put a ring on it” song? That was the new saying: if you liked it, then you shoulda put a ring on it. Then we started telling men that girls rule the world. Well, from this album, I gather we will start saying, “I woke up like this …! Flawless!” Check out the 30 second preview for the Flawless video. That’s the one featuring Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. Go Chimamanda!
