Tax season is in full swing, and would you believe that I made this list all by myself? Yes. I did. When I came to America and heard that the government gives back money, I was confused. I cannot say I completely understand how it works, but what I know for sure is how to spend it. Just like all other money, you can make it one way and spend it ten ways. But for now, let’s focus on 5 ways to spend your 2015 tax refund.
1. Pay Off Bills (or Just a Bill): Scratch a bill off your to-do list, if possible. Maybe it’s your gas card or your Macy’s card that has a balance of $200 and you’re only required to pay $25 a month, but imagine how much better you’d feel if you just pay it off.
2. Travel/Spa Day: Spoil yourself a little — or a lot. Maybe you can enjoy a nice, relaxing spa day. Or maybe you can finally visit Paris. Or Jamaica. Or New York. It’s your call.
3. Give Your Spouse/Loved One/Stranger a Treat: While receiving feels great, nothing actually feels better than giving. Maybe you can finally take your spouse to that restaurant he/she has always wanted to go to. Or you can take your mom/dad/parents to the game. Or perhaps, you just want to give a homeless man a blanket — or a warm meal. Yes, they’ll be happy, but you’ll be happier.
4. Buy Yourself A Car: Most times, we just want a car that can take us from Point A to Point B, but what about when you need to go to Point C? I know first hand what it feels like to not have a reliable car. My old car had a mind of its own and only started on days it felt like starting. I spent so much fixing it every time, and I tried several mechanics, but it’d work for a while and be back to business as usual.
A new car may not be on the table right now, but what about an awesome used car? DriveTime might just be the answer. Get this: DriveTime is the largest used car dealer and financing company helping people who have credit issues. If you already have great credit, good for you, but if you’re struggling for whatever reason, then DriveTime is just where you need to be. DriveTime has more than 120 dealerships in 21 states, so more than likely, there’s one close to you, and you can find a location here.
If I had to buy a car from DriveTime right now, I’ll definitely be going for this 2010 BMW 3-Series. It’s red and it’s a BMW. What’s more to know? Isn’t she lovely?
Having a car and not having to worry about whether or not it will take you where you need to be is a huge relief. Check out DriveTime to see what they’re all about (and possibly meet your new car boo).
5. Finally, Save Some: My mom taught me to never, ever spend everything, and I have never forgotten this. Whether your refund is $5,000 or $10,000 or more, make sure that you save something.
Bonus: If you’re feeling really good about your tax refund, you can also buy me a new fragrance. Or shoes. Or a house š
