This may sound weird, I know, but this MAC Red lipstick is my very first red lipstick. Ever. More than that, I don’t even wear lipstick a lot. Apart from this MAC Red lipstick, I own only 4 other lipsticks, and 3 of them came as free gifts from Lancome. But I had been reading a lot of beauty blogs and a lot of these beauty bloggers kept talking about the MAC Ruby Woo. So I went to MAC with the intention of buying the Ruby Woo lipstick.
When I got there, however, I realized that the Ruby Woo lipstick has a matte finish. Let’s rewind a little bit. Prior to my trip to MAC, I used to use only colored lip gloss. My favorite one was (still is) the one from L’Oreal Infallible 8HR Le Gloss (in the Pink Topaz color). It retails for less than $10, but no, it’s not 8 hours. It’s pretty good, but it isn’t 8 hours as advertised, unless I’m not using it well. The thing with lip glosses is that they provide the shine, but not the color. So it was because of this lack of color pigmentation that I decided to try a lipstick.
Fast forward to the day I went to MAC. I was disappointed to find out that the Ruby Woo had a matte finish, and that was how I got introduced to MAC Red. The MAC Red is MAC’s brightest red lip stick (and it’s really not that bright), but it has a glossy finish. I tried it and I loved it. The first time I tried it was when I attended Mikki’s mom’s 50th birthday party, and that was when I took this picture below. So yes, this lipstick was my first time wearing red lipstick, and I loved it. Haven’t stopped using it yet.
All that being said, I’m in the market for a brighter lipstick, and for other shades of lipstick, too. Those of you who know much about lipstick, please feel free to direct me to a brand and/or color. I am yet to buy a lipstick from Lancome. Lancome lipsticks cost $30! But I can’t say that I’ll never buy it cause you know how Lancome always gets me. The one from MAC is $15. If you are interested, go get you some red from MAC here.
P.S. This is not a sponsored post, and I do not get a percentage of your money, if you purchase anything. I’m just sharing my new love for red.

I love Mac products. And I am a gloss babe. I do not own any lipsticks-yet. This shade looks amazing on you! Rock on

Thank you, Checee!! This is my second MAC product ever. The only other thing I have from MAC is a brown eye shadow that I use for my eyebrows. But I’m excited about exploring and discovering new beauty products.

Mac lipstick Rebel is my ultimate FAVORITE lip color! You should try it will definitely fit you! And if you want to try certain matte lip colors you can give it the glossy finish that you desire and also make it long-lasting by applying some type of lip balm or chapstick prior to use! I dont like the dryness of the matte at times but this method helps!!!!
Vera Ezimora says
Nyambe, I have to check the Rebel color out. I’m such a newbie in lipsticks, lol. Yeah, I know that I can make it glossy by adding gloss on the matte finish, but I don’t even like the color getting on my lip gloss. Lol. Maybe I’ll buy one matte finish one day and see how much I like it.

it looks good on you Vera. I wish they had the ruby woo in gloss. love red lipstick but I find that it makes one look older sometimes
Vera Ezimora says
Manny, really??? Didn’t know/haven’t noticed that it can make people older. Just like my fashion/style, I’m trying to revamp my makeup, too. Don’t want too much color on my eyes anymore. But perhaps bolder lips.

i love Mac’s ruby woo. especially the matte finish, as much as i’m more of a lipgloss than tlipstick gal. I have really full lips and glossing it up makes it look even more plump and using a glossy red?that one na trouble. The ruby woo makes my lips look smaller and stays on for a longgg time.
Vera Ezimora says
Lol. See the irony of life. Those that have smaller lips want to wear a lip plumper and those that have full lips want it to look smaller. Lol. Funny stuff.

It looks great on you though!

Thank you, Hamira!
