I can’t find the post now, but I do remember it was not too long ago that I wrote about monetizing this blog. The thing is that I have been blogging for about 7.5 years now, but it was only recently that I opened my blog up to advertising. And even at that, it was even more recently that I really started the actual advertising.
My sponsored post from yesterday got a couple of complaints in the comment section. Thank you for the comments. I take your comments very seriously, and that’s why I’m dedicating an entire post to respond to them. The easiest way for me to do this is to list my points:
1. Blogging is fun and it’s great, but it’s not free to me. It costs me money – not to mention, lots of time – to maintain this blog. These ads help to compensate me for my time.
2. A lot of the popular blogs you read run many, many, MANY ads. You just don’t know it because (a) They do not disclose that you are reading an ad [a sponsored post], (b) It is written deceitfully, so you don’t even notice it. Those “press releases” and posts that tell you of events, store openings, etc are not authentic.
3. I will always be completely honest with you. If I put up a sponsored post that says the opinion is 100% mine, please believe it to be true. It just means that a company is paying me to tell them what I really, really think (which I have been doing for free anyway).
4. If a sponsored post isn’t my 100% opinion, then it will not say that it is.
5. I realize that we (yes, you and I) have had three sponsored posts in the space of about 9 days, so while it feels like a lot, it actually isn’t. The problem is that I was too busy to include other posts. I mean the personal and general ones. It was a really busy week, and I am sorry.
6. Think about advertising as a freelance job. Well, technically it is anyway. There are some times when business would be booming, and then not so much for other times. We can consider the past 9 days as a booming time 😀
7. Although I have never been to Lekki (I did not live in Lagos; I lived in Jos), I have heard many nice things about the place. Since no one here has offered me a Lekki Mansion, I am forced to make the money myself.
8. The reason why people even want to advertise with me is because you are reading my blog. They are looking at my numbers, and they are liking them, and that’s because you continue to show me love by reading this blog. My point is that this is technically your fault. The only way to rectify it is to read more often and invite your friends and enemies to do the same. That way, my numbers would be even higher, and I would command even more money, and I would do less jobs (for more money). See? Everyone is happy.
Let’s have an agreement: I’ll do the ads (via sponsored posts, tweets. and banner ads), but at no time will the ads be more than the other posts. Deal? And if we don’t all agree to this agreement, then we need a tie breaker to make the decision. For this, I will be tearing a page out of Sheldon Cooper’s book (nerds rejoice) and declaring myself the tie breaker. Again, everyone is happy.
Thank you, sweeties for reading this blog. Believe me, there is so much I am working on to make it even better for us all. For example, I want to do many, many giveaways. I want you to get free stuff, just for reading this blog. I’m working on it. I swear it.
P.S. My sponsored post about the Kia Forte has a concluding part (that is NOT a sponsored post).

Pendo,
Thank you, love. I just wanted to explain it since I know that people are not really used to the sponsored posts and/ads. Will this be a good time to tell you that another one is coming? Tehehe.
Lady gaby says
People really complained about the ad?
Vera Ezimora says
Lady Gaby, I think it’s because I had so many in such a little time. *shrug*
Sisi Yemmie says
I also do Ad’s on my blog and videos…thats what keeps the business going oh! 7.5 years! Its time you start getting that money!
Vera Ezimora says
Yes oh! Thank you, Sisi. I, too, think that’s it’s time for me to start getting that money. Keep doing your ads, sweerat. Enjoy! I haven’t entered the video stage. Any day now. Lol.
Ola says
Biko I feel like you are late & I know most people wouldn’t even do it for FREE.
Vera Ezimora says
Thank you, Ola. Appreciate the support.
Berry Dakara says
LOL. I was one of the complainers, yes I was – mostly because I disagreed with the ad. I still maintain that if you don’t have enough cash to go on vacation, SIT YOUR BUTT AT HOME!!!
Like Pendo said, maybe mix them up with regular posts, so it doesn’t seem like your blog’s been taken over.
🙂

Yes, Ma’am!!
I was not mad at all at your comment. I took it seriously, and that’s why I put up a post to address the ads. Per your opinion on that post, you’re allowed to have and express it anytime. I always welcome the comments. Thank you for reading.
