Two totally unrelated events, but they happened back to back.
Last week was busy for me. It seemed like I had somewhere to be everyday, and this week is even busier. I cannot call this a weekend recount because the two events I’m writing about happened during the week.
First and foremost, I shared on social media that Toyota gave me a Rav-4, but the post was a bit misleading. They gave me a car to drive for a week because I am totally awesome, and because they are trying to use “idea” to get me hooked. My grandma heard about the car and asked, “What do they mean you have to return it? Don’t return that car!” Luckily for Toyota, I don’t always listen to my grandma, otherwise, you’d hear on the news about a Nigerian girl who drove a Rav-4 from Baltimore all the way to Nigeria – oceans be damned!
Anyway, Toyota also sponsored an event organized by the University of Maryland Terps Against Hunger. I and several other people (employees of Toyota, students of the University of Maryland, and one other blogger) volunteered to prepack food for hungry families in Glen Burnie. The goal was 45,000 meals, but we ended up doing 74,000! Pictures and video below. See? I promised to do more videos. By the end of this month (which is in exactly 8 days), I should know enough about videos to produce a major blockbuster. Watch your back, Steven Spielberg!
The RAV4 is actually the hybrid version, and I learned from John that the hybrid is only about $700 more than the regular RAV4. Although my Zoe is a 2014 car, she does not have many of the features that this RAV4 has. For example, I don’t have GPS. This RAV4 also has the keyless entry and keyless start, and a sunroof! Sunroofs are great for selfies. Clearly, I’m not the one you come to for what lies under the car. I only care about the pretty stuff!
The very next day I was at Morgan State University to speak about personal branding, and it was such an exciting experience. I got to educate young minds – Ha! The more I spoke about blogging, social media, and personal branding, the more I thought to myself that I need to do this more often on the blog – share blogging tips, I mean. So keep an eye out for a new category to appear on the blog.
Anyway, it was a nice experience, and I look forward to doing more of it. I got to meet Omari Pearson, who is a former NBA player, and he was there as a speaker also. He’s an expert when it comes to speaking to college students about their future.
