There’s a trend going on. I don’t know when, why, or how it started, but it’s out there and it might be here to stay. There are gay men, and there are gay men who think they are fashionistas. And well, both of these things can in fact be mutually exclusive – contrary to what popular media may think. \u00a0It’s like anything that’s fashion related cannot be complete without gay men. Really, really gay men.<\/p>\n

You know who has inspired me to write this post? It’s Derek J. Derek J, the celebrity hairstylist from Bravo TV. I’m all for him being a hairstylist, and I’m even all for him being a celebrity hairstylist, but a fashionista? Stop playing. The very first time I saw a preview for Bravo TV’s Fashion Queens<\/em> show, I laughed out loud because I thought it was a parody for some other show. Imagine my shock and dismay when I found out that this was a real show. Derek J as a fashion queen? Surely, more than a few screws are missing from the heads of the people at Bravo.<\/p>\n

Derek J is a man who is built like a linebacker, but apparently, his mirror says something else because that man must look at himself in the mirror and see the curves of Beyonce. Otherwise, I don’t know why a grown ass man is walking around in a pair of booty shorts —- and having the temerity to talk about other people’s clothes. Sir, have you looked at yourself in a full length mirror?<\/p>\n

I understand that my views may not be popular, and I may soon be labeled as a homophobe or as being judgmental, but that will not change my mind. Just like being a girl\/female doesn’t automatically make you a fashionista, being a gay man does not make you a god in the world of women’s fashion.<\/p>\n

A big part of the problem is that people are always complementing people like Derek J. They leave comments like, “You better werk bitch…”<\/em> and “Flawless!”<\/em> and “Get yo money, girl!”<\/em> See, now, why did you have to go and do that? I don’t think there’s any world where Derek J or any man or woman dressed like him should be, would be, can be considered as looking flawless or anything remotely close to that.<\/p>\n

I enjoy watching fashion shows and reading fashion editorials, but they’ll be a lot easier to enjoy if there aren’t linebackers in booty shorts and heels gracing the the entries. By the way, I don’t think that Derek looks bad or would look bad if he were dressed properly<\/p>\n

P.S.<\/strong> I’m deliberately not going to say anything about “Miss” Lawrence who always acts brand new when someone refers to him as Sir<\/em>. Uhm, Sir, you are a Sir<\/em>. Be him a Sir<\/em> or a Miss,<\/em> he at least looks good in his clothes.<\/p>\n
