A year ago, I put up a post about the top 12 reasons why Igbos and Yorubas should not marry. One year later, the post is still getting comments from all kinds of people. Some people get the sarcasm, some people laugh, some other get angry, and some people just give me whatever insult they think is appropriate. Read and enjoy. Whether you are aware of it or not, many inter-tribal relationships have died an untimely death because of the tribal differences between the couple. Parents, elders, and friends have rained down fire and brimstone to see to it that this sacrilegious union does not get to the altar. The strong couples come out of it beaten, bruised, but alive nonetheless. The weaker ones \u2014 well, they inspire me to write this.<\/p>\n

The most popular union seems to be the one between the Igbos and the Yorubas. With this in mind, I have compiled a list, specially for everyone who is currently in such a relationship. \u00a0If you have been pressured into breaking up because of tribal differences and you have no idea why you should \u2013 or if you should, then I am here to help you make that decision. Please read, digest, and understand the lists below.<\/p>\n

Reasons Igbos Should\u00a0NOT\u00a0Marry Yorubas:<\/strong><\/p>\n

1.<\/strong>\u00a0They\u2019re dirty.<\/p>\n

2.<\/strong>\u00a0All they know how to do is party.<\/p>\n

3.<\/strong>\u00a0They eat too much oil.<\/p>\n

4.<\/strong>\u00a0Their women flirt\/sleep around too much.<\/p>\n

5.<\/strong>\u00a0Their men will ALWAYS cheat with a Yoruba woman.<\/p>\n

6.<\/strong>\u00a0They are loud and obnoxious. You can hear them from a mile away.<\/p>\n

7.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0They are wild. They are the real\u00a0\u201cAkata\u201d<\/em>\u00a0people.<\/p>\n

8.<\/strong>\u00a0They are Nigeria\u2019s problem.<\/p>\n

9.<\/strong>\u00a0They don\u2019t understand the Igbo culture.<\/p>\n

10.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0They do too much juju.<\/p>\n

11.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0They betrayed the Igbos during the Biafran war.<\/p>\n

12.<\/strong>\u00a0And to top the list, they are not Igbo.<\/p>\n

Reasons Yorubas Should\u00a0NOT\u00a0Marry Igbos:<\/strong><\/p>\n

1.<\/strong>\u00a0They\u2019re rude; they have no respect.<\/p>\n

2.<\/strong>\u00a0All they know how to do is chase money.<\/p>\n

3.<\/strong>\u00a0Their pounded yam is as hard as stone.<\/p>\n

4.<\/strong>\u00a0They don\u2019t put enough oil and spice in their food.<\/p>\n

5.<\/strong>\u00a0Their in-laws are wicked! The husband\u2019s family will always maltreat the woman.<\/p>\n

6.<\/strong>\u00a0They cannot speak Yoruba, and even if they can, they do not know our culture.<\/p>\n

7.<\/strong>\u00a0They will sell their brother for money.<\/p>\n

8.<\/strong>\u00a0They won\u2019t let us play our fuji music at home.<\/p>\n

9.<\/strong>\u00a0They\u2019re Nigeria\u2019s problem. They keep trying to divide us.<\/p>\n

10.<\/strong>\u00a0When their women die, their bodies have to be returned to Igbo Land to be buried.<\/p>\n

11.<\/strong>\u00a0They eat human beings.<\/p>\n

12.<\/strong>\u00a0And the mother of all crimes, they are not Yoruba.<\/p>\n

Top 12 Reasons You Should\u00a0NOT\u00a0Consider Before Getting Married<\/strong><\/p>\n

1.<\/strong>\u00a0He\/she does not appreciate you.<\/p>\n

2.<\/strong>\u00a0He\/she has a turbulent past and a shaky present.<\/p>\n

3.<\/strong>\u00a0He\/she can never be faithful to you. And you know this.<\/p>\n

4.<\/strong>\u00a0You have nothing in common, except your tribe, of course.<\/p>\n

5.<\/strong>\u00a0Your dreams, values, and aspirations couldn\u2019t be further apart from each other \u2013 even if you stretched them thin.<\/p>\n

6.<\/strong>\u00a0He\/she just doesn\u2019t get you.<\/p>\n

7.<\/strong>\u00a0He\/she knows how to bring out the worst in you.<\/p>\n

8.<\/strong>\u00a0You cannot quite place your finger on it, but you know that something isn\u2019t right with this relationship.<\/p>\n

9.<\/strong>\u00a0You know that you know that you know that you cannot count on him\/her to be there when you need him\/her.<\/p>\n

10.<\/strong>\u00a0He\/she has no ambition whatsoever.<\/p>\n

11.<\/strong>\u00a0Even with a gun to your head, you cannot vouch for him\/her.<\/p>\n

12.<\/strong>\u00a0And the least of all, he\/she has done nothing to imply that he\/she might be remotely in love with you.<\/p>\n

Bonus reason:<\/strong>\u00a0he\/she continuously picks his\/her friends and family over you.<\/p>\n

If you find yourself confused by the tone of this list, go back to the beginning and read it again till the end. \u00a0And just like the tributes in\u00a0The Hunger Games<\/em>, may the odds be ever in your favor.<\/p>\n
