I don’t know about you, but the first time I heard about Manolo Blahnik<\/em> was on Sex and the City<\/strong><\/em>, where the lead character, Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) was a writer and a fashionista who was always in heels – Manolo Blahnik<\/em>, to be precise. Well, it turns out that all those times she was wearing heels, it wasn’t just an act. I mean, when the camera went off, she did not take the shoes off (as I would have).<\/p>\n

Several years later, Sarah Jessica Parker says she’s giving up heels because her feet are disfigured. She said, “For ten years or so, I literally ran in heels. I worked eighteen-hour days and never took them off. I wore beautiful shoes, some better made than others, and never complained.”<\/em> She also said, “I went to a foot doctor and he said, ‘Your foot does things it shouldn’t be able to do. That bone there … you’ve created that bone. It shouldn’t be there.'” <\/em>Uhm, ouch.<\/p>\n

I think we all know that heels have a way of changing everything. They change the way you look, the way you walk, the way you feel (and sometimes this might mean that you now feel excruciating pain). For me, I love my heels. The highest one I have is five-three-quarters in height, but as much as I love them, I need them to be relatively comfortable.<\/p>\n

Christian Louboutin<\/p><\/div>\n

World-famous designer, Christian Louboutin has compared comfortable shoes to being in a a bad relationship. He says, “‘It’s like when people say: “Well we’re not really in love but we’re in a comfortable relationship.”You’re abandoning a lot of ideas when you’re too into comfort.’\u00a0‘Comfy, that’s one of the WORST words! I just picture a woman feeling bad, with a big bottle of alcohol, really puffy. It’s really depressing, but she likes her life because she has comfortable clogs.'”<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>Yeah, well, Im’ma have to disagree with you there, Mr. Louboutin. I have had the pain and pleasure of experiencing both, and they are nothing like each other. When you wear six inches for just an hour, then you can come back and tell me again how much you hate comfort in shoes.<\/p>\n

I think that in everything, there should be moderation. I wouldn’t wear flats on a red carpet, or with an evening gown, but I don’t need to wear five inches to a baby shower. Or a picnic. I don’t know why women wear heels to picnics, but that’s for another day. I wear flats as often as my feet feel like it. Just yesterday, I dressed up for church, wore my high heels, got to the door, walked out, and then, walked back in and kicked the shoes off my feet. It was a flat-shoes-to-church day. My feet thanked me.<\/p>\n

I also do not believe in excruciating pain, all in the name of wearing heels. High heels cannot ever be as comfortable as not wearing heels because the heels of our feet are not naturally five inches off the ground. So I expect some level of discomfort. But I refuse to go through excruciating pain because of heels. And the shoes I wear depend on where I’m going and how active I will be. Example, if I’m going to be standing on my feet a lot, then I’ll opt for the less uncomfortable heels. If I’m just going to be sitting pretty, I can up my game.<\/p>\n
