My Pete Edochie<\/p><\/div>\n

Apparently it was rumored last year that Pete Edochie died in Australia. The rumor was that he went there for filming (or for Christmas) and fell off a fifty feet building to the ground. I imagined it and laughed out loud. Somehow, I pictured him landing tummy first. That said, I did not actually hear the rumor when it broke; I only knew of it after this video of him surfaced.<\/p>\n

So, Pete Edochie is my favorite Nollywood actor of ALL time. He is on my list of people I want<\/del>\u00a0have<\/em> to meet. I just feel like the man is soooo talented. I would always pick up and watch a movie for the sake of Pete Edochie. In my opinion, he is to Nollywood what the likes of Anthony Hopkins, Al Pacino, and Robert De Niro are to Hollywood. Living legend(s). His name carries power. And validation. And importance. Like if Pete Edochie is in the movie, it cannot be that bad, right?<\/p>\n

About the rumor, I’m not really surprised that a rumor got started. As a celebrity, there will probably always be false rumors about him. What I am mad and disappointed about is that we – Nigerians – do not celebrate and take care of our own. I don’t know why I don’t see Pete in movies anymore, or why I don’t see or hear about the likes of Rachael Oniga, Bukky Ajayi, Larry Koldsweat, Alex Usifo, Hilda Dokubo, Liz Benson, etc anymore. These are the people who got us hooked on Nollywood movies, with unforgettable films like Living In Bondage<\/em>, Circle Of Doom<\/em>, Rattlesnake<\/em>, Evil Passion<\/em>, Nneka The Pretty Serpent<\/em>, Glamour Girls<\/em>, and much, much more! By the way, I have a DVD copy of Living In Bondage<\/em>, and no, I’m not sharing.<\/p>\n

You know, my dreams and interests are vast. One of them is movie-making, and when I do make that movie, Pete Edochie will play a major role in it. I don’t care what it takes. He has to be in it. I am really sad that we don’t even seem to recognize, or be able to decipher real talent from a truck load of shit. \u00a0Our movies these days are lacking in every way: plot, editing, acting, lighting, direction, production …. everything.
