Picture 2: I’m thinking about using this one as a profile picture for something I’m working on<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

I’m learning that life comes in different seasons. I am also learning that although the seasons may change, the God I serve doesn’t. I am learning not to react based on the obstacle in front of me but on the army I have behind me because whether I have to climb a mountain or a molehill, the God I look unto for help does not get bigger or smaller depending on my mountain. This is a lesson I’m still learning. I still have to remind myself of this sometimes because though I might be strong and though I might be fierce, I’m still all the way human. My emotions can be everywhere at the same time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Having a January birthday means that I basically celebrate two New Years in one month. First, I celebrate the commercial New Year on January 1st, but then, I also celebrate my personal New Year on my birthday. Any mistakes or wrong decisions I make between January 1st and January 13th do not count because January 14th is my New Year. That’s my story, and I am sticking to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Usually, I like to write something deep on my birthday – like the letter I wrote to myself in 2018<\/a><\/strong> (one month after I left my marriage, so yes, my emotions were raw) or the post I wrote in 2019<\/a><\/strong>, but this year, I am just light and fluffy. That’s the season I’m in. I swear I look at myself in the mirror and I smile and thank God, not just for my physical beauty, but for my emotional, spiritual, mental, and financial beauty and wellbeing. I am so grateful for where I am, how far I have come, and where I’m going. By the way, now that you know how my marriage ended<\/a><\/strong>, if you go back and read my birthday post from 2018<\/a><\/strong> and 2019, you will catch all the shade. I just read them now and burst out laughing, especially for the 2018 one. And no, I will not be editing a word out of it. I wrote it the way it was doing me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I know some of you only came here to see my faya pictures, and that’s okay. There’s nothing anyone can say to convince me otherwise: I am on fire and my heat is scorching the earth. Ask the people of Australia about me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’ve always wanted to take pictures like these ones. Actually, this is just the beginning of what I dream of doing with pictures. A few months ago, I started dreaming about this birthday photoshoot, so I went looking for recommendations on Facebook for a photographer, and this photographer, Ksenia<\/a><\/strong> was one of the ones people recommended. I checked out everyone that was recommended and she was my favorite one before we even connected. The fact that she’s Russian was icing on the cake. So, two weeks ago, I drove to her studio (over an hour away from me) and we made this happen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I knew what I wanted the makeup to look like, too. And I knew that Tokunbo of Ophir_Beauty<\/a><\/strong> would be the one to do it. I just needed to tell her exactly what I wanted. Don’t make my face too colorful, I told her. And I want little to no contour on my nose. And no exaggerated lashes. And a neutral color on my lips<\/em><\/strong>. She delivered, and I loved it! The way I was admiring myself that day was sinful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When I told Funmie what I wanted to wear for my birthday, she shouted Blood of Jesus a few hundred times. The girl is just too dramatic. After all her shouting, she still borrowed me her coral beads for this shoot. Uju, on the hand, said, “Oh, sexy!”<\/em><\/strong> But you know Uju is kuku mad; she’ll support you if you say you want to run around naked. My mom loves them, said I look very take-away. My Aunty, Chinelo is completely against these pictures. You know she only has church mind. “So everybody will see all your breasts?”<\/em><\/strong> She asked me when I showed her one of them. Sweet Potatoes, biko, are you seeing all my breasts? Don’t even answer that. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although I have no plans for today, I am soooo excited for this birthday. My coworkers are tired of me telling them that my birthday is coming. I spent last night editing this post and deciding what to wear to work today. I’ll try and bug a colleague to take a picture of me. If I succeed, I’ll share it on Instagram because that’s what all the cool kids are doing, so if we’re not connected there, let’s do it! Connect on IG here<\/a><\/strong>. Meanwhile, when it clocked midnight, we broke into joyous dancing: my aunt, Ada Verastic, me, and Toby. It’s also Toby’s birthday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seriously, I don’t actually have the words for this year’s birthday. I am in awe of how good God has been to me. I don’t understand it. I cannot comprehend it. I am divinely protected, and I do not know why. I guess I don’t have to know. Ada Verastic has been telling me happy birthday for days (although I think it’s partly because she wants my cake). She undoubtedly remains the best gift I have ever received. Now that I’m back to writing on the blog, I look forward to continuing to share my life with you because we’re all in this thing together; some of us just look better than others. Haaa! Vera, behave yourself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Enough of the serious stuff. Are you looking at my pictures and smiling? Are you smiling because you’re happy to see that I am indeed blooming? I’ll only ask that you do one thing for me. I won’t ask if you have saved my pictures; I’ll instead say that when<\/em><\/strong> you are done saving my pictures, you should at least print one out and hang it in your living room and in the other room. And it has to be a poster-sized picture, please because I am too big to be small. Sebi I told you people that I am prouding now. Just look how the new cockiness is oozing freely out of me.
