I am so flipping excited right now! There I was, jejely minding my business when I saw a link on Facebook about Listen To Your Mother casting in Baltimore. If you don’t know about Listen To Your Mother<\/a><\/strong>, then where have you been??? This is an event where people come together to speak about motherhood. They do this in many cities across the country. As soon as I saw the link, I clicked on it, saw that there were still a few dates open, and then I registered to audition.<\/p>\n

Now, let me tell you something about me (and this isn’t a good thing). I am very good at preparing and researching and getting ready, but the problem is that sometimes I prepare myself into inaction. I’m pretty sure that I have mentioned this before, but I can’t remember on what post I mentioned it. But when I was coming into 2016<\/a><\/strong>, I promised myself that I would go full throttle (By the way, check out number 13 on my coming into 2016 post!!!<\/a><\/strong>). I would try my best to give every dream a chance. Whether it works out well or not is God’s problem really. And I promised myself that I would seize every opportunity without overthinking it till the point of not doing it. That’s why I didn’t think twice before I registered to be auditioned. I didn’t even stop to research the date of the event or the cost or anything. Nope.<\/p>\n

It was this past Saturday that I went for my audition. The mission was to read an original piece that I wrote on motherhood, but because this was not a previously thought-out event, I had no idea what I was going to write and read about. I started writing my piece a day before the audition because that was when I had some clarity on what to write about, and it wasn’t till Saturday morning before the audition that I completed my piece. I read it to Igwe and Ada Verastic several times (although I think Ada Verastic could not have cared less, she just wanted her milk).<\/p>\n

I was nervous driving to the audition, and I was nervous when I got there, and I was nervous when I went into the room. In fact, as soon as I entered the room, my whole body was burning up from the inside. However, an interesting thing happened. As soon as I stood behind the podium, I was fine. In fact, I was a little too comfortable. Standing behind that podium felt familiar. So I read my piece. It was a humor piece, and I hoped the judges would laugh (four judges). They laughed at all the right places. Still, I didn’t want to get ahead of myself with excitement.<\/p>\n

On Monday, I finally received an email from them. I stopped breathing when I saw their name. I quickly opened the email and scanned it. I was looking for the part they’d either say, “Thanks for auditioning, but unfortunately ….”<\/em> or “Congratulations!”<\/em> I saw “Congratulations!”<\/em> and that was when I started breathing and actually read the entire email. Oh. My. God.<\/p>\n

This audition was my first time ever auditioning for anything, and it made me scratch my head and think, hmmm, I wonder what else I can audition for<\/em>. \u00a0I am so excited to be in the company of these wonderful women, and I cannot wait to tell my story and hear theirs. My story is about my mommy, and if you have read any posts on this blog about my mom, then you have an idea where I’m going with this.<\/p>\n

Speaking of my mommy, I called her to let her know that I have been cast in Listen To Your Mother Baltimore and before I could even finish my sentence, she asked, “Okay. But are you listening to your mother?”<\/em><\/p>\n

Me:<\/strong> Of course, I am!<\/p>\n

Mommy:<\/strong> Ehen. But you’re still not feeding her?<\/p>\n

Me:<\/strong> Mommm! We’re still talking about this?<\/p>\n

Yes, my mommy won’t stop talking about my alleged refusal to feed Ada Verastic<\/a><\/strong>. As far as my mommy is concerned, Ada Verastic is not eating unless she is latched on to my nipples. This is exactly why I can’t stop writing about her. She gives me so much material. I love my mommy.<\/p>\n

Back to the Listen To Your Mother event in Baltimore<\/a><\/strong>. It will be happening on Saturday, April 23rd at 6:00 PM in Baltimore, and the tickets are on sale right now for only $16.00 per person (you can buy a ticket here<\/a>)<\/strong>.
