Ada Verastic is a month old already. Can you believe it? Neither can I! She turned one month on Friday and a couple days before, we went to see her doctor for her one month check up. I thought she would go there and display for the doctor by crying like we’re pinching her – the way she usually does at home – but nope, she was a total angel. The doctor was so impressed by how quiet she was. I told her not to be impressed oh because Ada Verastic was merely putting on an award winning performance. Sure enough, as soon as the doctor left, Ada Verastic started wailing. Nice work, baby girl. Nice work.<\/p>\n

Look at my baby!<\/p><\/div>\n

It seems like I only just got pregnant and now I have a one month old. I have so much learning to do, but I’m looking forward to it all. My grandma has been an immense help, but unfortunately, she went back home yesterday. Well, she only lives 10 minutes away and she will be coming back and forth. Still, I count it as her going back home. As grandma and I went down the steps, we were both crying, and now that I think of it, we sounded pretty ridiculous. Did I mention that she only lives 10 minutes away?<\/p>\n

Me:<\/strong> Mama, don’t cry *sniffles*<\/em><\/p>\n

Grandma:<\/strong> I’m not crying *sniffles, wipes tears*<\/em><\/p>\n

Me:<\/strong> Mama, you’re crying<\/p>\n

Grandma:<\/strong> No, oh, I’m not crying *more sniffles*<\/em><\/p>\n

Yeah. Ridiculous. I miss her so much. Don’t laugh at us.<\/p>\n

Anyway, in the month that Ada Verastic and I have spent together, I have learned so much about her. And of course, my life has changed a bit. Below are the few examples I can think about right now:<\/p>\n

1.<\/strong> \u00a0Call me Cowbell because I am always hooked up to a machine and pumping. All I need now is one of those septum \u00a0nose rings that cows wear. When I started using my breast pump, I remember the pediatrician telling me to pump every \u00a0couple of hours. My people, I was really hooking myself up to the breastpump and trying to pump every two hours. Eventually, I concluded that the pediatrician was mad. And me sef, I must have been sniffing toilet to agree to it.<\/p>\n

2. \u00a0<\/strong>Burps, pee, poop, and breast milk: these are the things that make my day now. I get very, very excited when any of them make an appearance. I am a little disturbed by how animated I get when she poops or burps. They’re gold to me now.<\/p>\n

3.<\/strong> \u00a0I no longer have a schedule. I don’t know for sure when I will wake up (10am or 4am?). I don’t know how I will sleep at night either (6 hours or 3 hours?). I don’t know anything.<\/p>\n

4.<\/strong> \u00a0I’m sleepy and tired a lot. Some days, I truly feel like I have not accomplished anything. Where did all the time go? I’m probably being a little hard on myself. I did just have a baby a month ago.<\/p>\n

5.<\/strong> \u00a0It takes me days to write a post. I really don’t know how I have managed to keep this blog updated (and even reply to comments sef!). The post you’re reading now, I have been typing it since Friday. I keep adding and editing, and every time I turn the computer on, Ada Verastic needs my attention. I think she’s even doing it on purpose.<\/p>\n

6.<\/strong> Oh, and the mother of all sins: I have not been getting my nails done. My nails look like I’ve been in a fight. The thing is, I love keeping my nails long. I let them grow really long, and then I get tired and cut them. I never add extensions because they grow really fast. I cut my nails down before Ada Verastic was born, but my nails keep growing fast, and I refuse to keep going back every week to pay someone to cut my nails down. No be to use nail cutter? Anyway, this was my first time using gel polish, and I’m trying to peel it off. Did not know it was difficult to come off. I thought it’s like regular nail polish. Never again!<\/p>\n

\"Bad<\/a>

My people, look at my nails. Just look at what they have become. I am embarrassed and excited all at once. I’m excited because of the reason why this is happening.<\/p><\/div>\n

Happy one month birthday, Ada Verastic! You have given my life a whole new meaning.<\/p>\n

P.S.<\/strong> Don’t worry, I do not intend to bombard you with a birthday post every month.<\/p>\n
