… And you won’t believe what it’s called. It’s called *insert drum roll* The new iPad. No, seriously, that’s the name of the new ipad. It’s not called the iPad 3 as everyone – myself included – speculated. But rather, The new iPad. Continue to see pictures.
As I blogged some days ago, Apple sent out an invitation to the important people – you know, serious stake holders et al – about their new product, saying, “We have something you need to see. And touch.” Apple fans went crazy trying to figure it out. Most people were sure it was the iPad 3. Considering how good Apple is, it could have been a helicopter that fits into your pocket for all I know. Or maybe a phone that doubles as a flying car. Who knows with Apple these days?
So it was the new iPad. And I was glad because I’ve been in the market looking for a tablet, and as much as I tried to avoid the iPad, I had to stop lying to myself: it’s the best one out there – at least for now. Maybe some day, Android and Blackberry (or some other operating system) will catch up, but right now, Apple is the front runner.
I had this conversation with Uju yesterday:
Me: Apple has unveiled their new product. It’s the new iPad.
Uju: Oh, really? What is it called?
Me: The new iPad
Uju: No, I mean the name of the new iPad.
Me: The name of the new iPad is The new iPad.
Uju: Oh.
Exactly. So now, I wonder what they will call the iPad after this one: The newer iPad? The new iPad 2? The new new iPad? The new iPad Again? I don’t know. Apple is capable of doing many things. But we have to give it to them; they are good. They are really good. With their products, with their marketing strategy, they are on point. *thumbs up*
The new iPad features a 9.7 inch retina display with 3.1 million pixels. That’s four times the pixels of iPad 2 and a million pixels more than a high definition television. It has a 5 megapixel iSight camera with advanced optics that lets you shoot beautiful pictures and 1080p videos. Also, instead of typing, you can just press the microphone button and it will type the words that you’re speaking. (Wondering if I can finish my book this way … and wondering if my accent will be a problem. Must learn American accent!) This feature can also be used for third-party sites, like for updating your status on Facebook and for tweeting. There’s also something called AirPlay. Whether it’s pictures, videos, or music that you’re streaming on your iPad, you can stream them on your HDTV too – wirelessly (with the aid of an Apple TV, of course). Cool, huh?
The iPad becomes available for purchase on Friday, March 16th. I cannot promise that I will be the first in line, but if I get around to it, I’ll get it on that day. If not, I’ll get it eventually. I plan on getting a white one. The iPad 2 is now selling for $399 on Apple’s website; probably cheaper on other sites, like eBay. And I’m using this medium to warn Igwe to stay away from my iPad! He thinks he’s better than me because he has a Mac and I have a PC. Well, I’m gonna show him!
