Twitter went down today, and if you are a twitter (twitterer?), then you would know the implication of not having Twitter. It means there’s no place for you to complain about not having Twitter. I noticed a couple hours ago while I was attempting to tweet from my iPad that the tweets were not posting. I thought I had bad internet connection in the bedroom, so I moved to the living room. But the problem persisted. Then I tried to tweet from my phone. It still didn’t post. So I moved on to my laptop. Nothing.
Nothing was loading. Not the timeline. Not the mentions. Nothing. That was when I knew that the world could be in danger. How else would we get breaking news? You know, there are some who will know of Rapture via Twitter? While someone is being raptured (floating into heaven), he or she may send out a quick tweet: “OMG! I’m totally being raptured right now. Tweet y’ll once I get my internet fixed!” He/she may even include a twitpic of themselves floating in the cloud. I don’t know yet if the Messiah Himself will be in this twit pic or not. And that’s how some people will know of the rapture. Of course, I’ll be in the other group of people – the ones that tweet during the rapture to alert everyone else.
But seriously though, do you know that Twitter’s outage caused a panic online? I had to ask Igwe if his twitter was working. When he said no, I texted Uzo to find out if hers was working. When she, too, said no, I decided to google it. And when Google confirmed it, I lapsed into depression. Some may say that I just fell asleep, but I know better.
Oh, by the way, did you know that you can confirm a website’s outage by visiting DownForEveryoneElseOrJustMe and typing in the url? You did? Well, I just found out! But why am I not this innovative? I could have thought of this first.
Know what’s funny? When I could not post my tweets, all I did – several times – was try to send tweets asking why my tweets were not posting. And when I finally confirmed that Twitter was indeed down, I tried again several times to post a tweet telling people that Twitter was down. I thought about it later and realized something (which I tweeted, of course).
The most frustrating thing about Twitter not working is not being able to tweet about Twitter not working #fb
