My, has this week flown by! It’s Friday already, and I’m just doing my weekend recount from Saturday (August 17th). I had the pleasure of MCing the 40th birthday of Ms. Bimbo. I did not know her before the event, but she said I was recommended to her by someone who reads Verastic (Thank you!).
The event was in Bowie, and I went alone. This was my first time ever going for a hosting gig by myself. My favorite, all-time company, Igwe is out of the country again. Funmie was supposed to come with me, but she had to cater last minute. I won’t lie, I missed him badly at this event. Usually, I can look at him while standing there and talking and he’d give me a thumbs up or a wink. This time, it was just the over sized tote I left on the chair that was looking at me. No thumbs up. No wink. *sigh*
Ms. Bimbo was full of life, and I absolutely enjoyed watching her enjoy her day. I was to be there till 1am, but I ended up staying till 2am because I was so busy watching her and her guests have fun. By the time I got home, it was almost 3am. I stayed on the phone with Igwe to keep me from falling asleep while driving. The way these women were having fun, I was starting to believe that maybe 40 is the new 29 after all. Ms. Bimbo changed twice (she looked like a bride, no kidding) and had two cakes.
The hall was decorated like a wedding, and the food was on point. I briefly considered taking the caterer home as take away. Before I move on to the pictures, I have to mention that I really loved hearing the speeches from her friends, women she has been friends with for over two decades. You could hear the sincerity in their voices and see the joy on their faces. They were genuinely happy for their friend, and it was beautiful to see.
Enjoy the pictures. There’s no picture of me because there was no Igwe. Sorry, just had to add that again. Yes, I’m still sulking. The video is just a little over a minute, and it’s from when they were dancing the old school songs. I regret not recording them during the contemporary Nigerian songs.
Enjoy the short video. Happy birthday again, Ms. Bimbo
