Let me start by introducing my breasts. They’re not huge, but they’re definitely not small either. While we’re on the issue of breasts, I might as well be as transparent as ever. I’m a 38D. Let me rephrase that: I was 38D before I got pregnant. I was told by many over zealous mothers (read: Solachi) that once I get pregnant, my breasts would explode. Well, I got pregnant and that didn’t really happen. They got bigger, sure, but nothing like what I was expecting. I didn’t even notice their increased size (because I was still wearing the same clothes and bras) until they day I tried on my push up bra and it looked like I borrowed it from someone. That was when I knew that my breasts had increased. But like I said, nothing drastic.
After I had the baby, my breasts were still the same until my breast milk came in. Did you know that breast milk doesn’t come in as soon as the baby is born? I did not know that until I gave birth. At first, the only thing that was coming out of my breasts was colostrum, fondly known as first milk, which I was told is very nutritional and essential for the baby. Two days after giving birth, my breast milk came in, and boy, did it come in. My breasts were bigger, fuller, heavier, perkier, and harder. I have never touched surgically enhanced breasts, but I would imagine that they feel something like mine: hard, lumpy, and distinguished – in a non breast kind of way.
I did not buy a nursing bra before I had my baby. Not because I thought I would not need it, but because I wanted to make sure I needed it before buying it. One thing I noticed while pregnant is that many people and many blogs will give you a long list of things that you need. But pregnancies are as different as the women carrying them. Perhaps, I should put up a post about my maternity fashion – or lack, thereof.
Ehen, about the breastfeeding breasts, I did not have a nursing bra, but I learned very quickly that I needed one because my regular bras did not fit, and I could not go around braless because my milk was leaking and I needed nursing pads, which I would only be able to use with a bra. I tried wearing my sports bra, but that only worked for a day, as I started having back pain from the weight of my new breasts and the lack of support that the sports bra provided. Thank God for my boo thang, Funmie who bought me two nursing bras. One was a size 38DDD and the other was 40DDD. I thought she was crazy for both because Vera Ezimora does not wear triple D of any bra. Was I wrong or what! The 38DDD fit perfectly. The 40DDD was too wide.
So why are breastfeeding breasts the best? Because my newly enlarged bosom has me feeling all kinds of sexy. I look at myself in the mirror, especially from the side, and I’m like, asa nwa!!!! Na only you waka come oh! And when I put on my brown and black lace nursing bra, I almost want to take my own self to bed. Also, Igwe keeps staring at me with longing eyes, and I have to remind him to back off! We can’t do naughty things because I’m still healing. He counts down everyday. My only regret about the breastfeeding breasts is that I cannot walk around braless — because of the leak and everything. Speaking about my leaking breasts, my breasts now also squirt milk at an alarming speed and distance. Bystanders, beware.
Oh, and while I’m possibly turning you on and grossing you out at the same time, I’d like to also add that my breasts have a smell now. I suppose it’s the smell of breast milk, although when I smell the breast milk from the bottle (after pumping), I can’t smell a single thing. But I smell it on myself and on my baby, and I. Love. It. I can’t explain it at all, but I love it.
So if you catch me at the traffic light with my head buried in my shirt, know I am either sniffing my breasts or checking them out. Probably both.
P.S. I have another breastfeeding story that I have to share. This one isn’t about the size of my breasts. Technically.

Awwwww congrats!!!!! Lol at the breast saga that was exactly me years ago When I had my Daughter Milania. The lickick was not a joke I learnt fast thought so I always had my pads, and the breastfeeding bra too was very handy especially when you are not home and have to Breastfeed where ever baby gets hungry which can be anywhere bank, mall, restaurant etc .Great blog…. #BreastfeedingMomsRock
Vera Ezimora says
Opportune, I’m so glad to know you had a similar experience. I have not started going out with my baby (apart from doctor’s appointments) so we don’t have the problem of being hungry everywhere yet, but yeah, the pads and nursing bras are definitely needed.
Mikki says
Haha… Guess this answered my question.
I left the naming thinking “hoping I wasn’t intruding” lol
I’m always curious about this priciest aspect of motherhood. Like you said it’s different for everyone. I still have not come across one who does not breastfeed by choice though.
Md hospitals have decided to stop giving formula to new moms when they leave the hospital to promote breastfeeding.
So…. Still curious. Lol
Vera Ezimora says
Mikki, I read the thing about MD not giving formulas anymore. I wonder when that stared cause I had some when I left the hospital, although mine was what left when they initially gave me some (after I asked for it). But errr, yeah, you definitely were not intruding. Please feel free to ask any time.

Wait until you’re done breastfeeding…they’ll look like deflated balloons. This is especially since you were already gifted with moderate sized bosoms.
belle says
Right… I was about to say. Your tits are unfortunately going to sag. Downside of big breasts + breastfeeding.
Are those your tits in the pic? Wondering cause you tagged the pic, but those don’t look like 40+’s!
Vera Ezimora says
Belle, those are not my breasts in the picture. It’s a [paid for] stock photo. I don’t usually tag stock photos, but I had already tagged and uploaded this one before I thought about it, and I simply refused to start all over. Lol. per the sagging, no wahala. There are many ways around that 😀
Vera Ezimora says
Chinwe, no wahala. That is a very small price to pay for this joy. Plus errr, there’s always a mommy makeover. Hehehe
Chinwe says
Lol!!
Vera Ezimora says
Yes, indeed!

Awwwww
Enjoy your blessings dearie

Thank you, Azzy 🙂

Congrats to your family, all the breast saga sounded very much like mine. Love love love my pregnancy and breastfeeding breast so much, won’t mind breastfeeding for life if that mean I keep it, but my children have a mind of their own and they both abandoned the breast for daddy after 9 months.
Enjoy the experience dear, they grow too quickly.
Vera Ezimora says
Loooooooooool. Ronnie, sorry dear. My mom told me that I abandoned her breast at 5 months, so give your children some credit. They were better than me. Lol. I have heard from literally every mom that they grow too quick, so I am trying to savor every moment with her.
HoneyDame says
Isn’t this just enough reason to just goan kidnap a man an make a baby or two with him?
No?
It’s just me who feels this way?
Ok then!
Vera Ezimora says
HoneyDame, you should know that I would never, ever discourage you from kidnapping a man, so if that’s what you want to do, then please, carry go. Lol. Let me know when you’re done, so I can blog abourrit 🙂
lara says
@Honeydame: Don’t go kidnapping no man, lol.
Enjoy the joys of motherhood Vera

Yesssss!!! V-necks are the best for boobage. Biko, we have to enjoy it while we can. For me, I’ve always had breasts, but breastfeeding just makes them even hotter. I ain’t mad at all. I’m looking forward to your own breastfeeding boobs, too. Lol. We will pray against our breasts becoming smaller after breastfeeding.

Lmao at ‘i’m either sniffing my breasts’. Love, love, love your blog. Its entertaining and educative and informative. Came across it some weeks ago but I didn’t get to read then so I subscribed for future use and here I am now, stuck on it too. Congrats on your baby. May God bless and keep her.
